Diane | 13052 comments Here is a list of African authors by country, although there are many of the more recent authors not listed:

Ian Isaro (ianisaro) I'm a writer from Tanzania.

One author not on that list that I want to particularly recommend is Nnedi Okorafor from Nigeria. She has some fun genre books with a distinctly West African flavor.

Welcome to the group, Ian! Thanks for the author recommendation. I own her book, Akata Witch, but haven't read it yet. How long have you lived in Tanzania?

Ian Isaro (ianisaro) Akata Witch was pretty good, though it is a YA title - the shift toward YA worked for some people and not for others.

Since studying in the US, I've been in Tanzania around three years. Total in my life... wow, I guess it's actually less than ten. I didn't realize how much time I spent in Kenya, and with school in the States.

Wow, I am so envious. I really want to visit East Africa someday.

Khouloud Khammassi (khouloud_khammassi) | 6 comments Hello Guys,
I wanted to share some news about Tunisian authors.

I am publishing Tunisian best-sellers in French on Kindle.
You can find them at this link:http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_nos...

Here is the link to the support website: http://darbarca.webs.com

Also, I would like to note that one of the books will be soon available in English on Kindle too.

I strongly recommend reading those books. I started as a reader and because I liked them so much, I decided to publish them in order for more people to read them. If you wonder what's so special about them, my answer is that they candidly speak about Tunisia.

Happy Reading!
Bonne Lecture!

Terrence Perera (terrenceperera) | 37 comments Sri Lankan and Zimbabwean Memories by Terrence Perera Sri Lankan and Zimbabwean Memories by Terrence Perera

The book is a collection of autobiographical reminiscences of the author’s life, mainly in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. The author has also lived in Australia, Zambia and Canada.
He came to Zimbabwe with his family in 1981 just after that country obtained independence. The book explores his personal experiences in Zimbabwe. It relates, particularly in the chapter, “The Mount Pleasant Sports Club”, of how the author overcame racial prejudices and formed intimate, lasting friendships with many of his White colleagues. https://www.amazon.com/author/terrenc...

message 12: by Mome_Rath (new)

Mome_Rath | 1887 comments That's a challenging question. The author is of Nigerian heritage, but he wanted his book to be representative of the use of child soldiers in conflicts in west Africa. He mentioned that it wasn't meant to represent Nigeria specifically, but I placed the book there in my list because of the author's heritage.

Miriam Murcutt | 42 comments The Wife’s Tale by Aida Edemariam
A lyrical and mystical telling of the life of the author's Ethiopian grandmother, passed as it was amidst the reality of Ethiopia's unique and troubled modern history. Great to read if you've visited Ethiopia, as the book evokes so many of the practices and places you've will experienced in your travels. A trickier read, perhaps, if you have no knowledge of that country. However, the map at the front of the book as well as the chronology and glossary at the back give the reader a helping hand.
