There's one with a broken ankle -- and another one with a broken fibula, I think. I think the one that was worried about mobility was the ankle, though. I'm currently working my way back through all the books, and the ankle one was just a few books ago. Since I'm currently on Second Wind, book 38, the ankle book must be somewhere between the high 20's and 36. I'll see if I can figure out which one...
And in the meantime, sympathies to your ankle and foot. Many years ago I spent a few weeks splinted all the way from toes to hip, so I feel your pain!
Ooh Ooh I know this....And he got talked into riding to show off a horse for prospective clients...
I think it was Straight, I'm gonna go check.
Yay!! Thank you so much for finding the book for me. Straight is it :-) Now, does anyone know which book had the broken fibula in it? I'd like to read that one too, I *have* plenty of time LOL
I was thinking it is Bonecrack, but I'm not sure if the main character has a broken leg or someone else in the book. Anyhow, it's one of my favorites.
Bonecrack has broken collarbones. Ouch, still one of the scenes that can make me cringe.I will check which one has the broken leg....
Back soon :-)
I can't find another book where the hero has a broken leg. In Enquiry Kelly Hughes wears a cast after his knee and ankle are dislocated in a very unique accident. I did spend a pleasant half hour flicking through the books and appreciating his word sense and enjoying the touch of his mind, so even if I haven't found the right book it's still a win.
Thanks for all the help; I'm having fun revisiting all these older D.F.stories. I have to admit that I am emotionally involved in them this time, it makes me cringe too :-)
Even though there are no broken legs involved, if you are filling time with Dick Francis I would highly recommend that you read Whip Hand and Come to Grief again. Those are two of the Sid Halley books, and they are my favorites of the whole Francis series. :)

I'd like to reread this book while my broken ankle and displaced toes are mending for moral support.
