Mel | Places we read | 3 comments Hi all,

I absolutely love The Shifting Fog (The House at Riverton) and The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton and was hoping someone could recommend a few novels that are similar to these?

What a great thread Melissa! I've been curious about Kate Morton for awhile, but haven't read any of hers yet, so I'll be watching this thread with interest:)

Deb (varmint) | 66 comments Hi Melissa,

I am currently reading the forgotton garden and cant put it down, I love it. this is the first book of kate mortons that I have read. I will definitely be reading her book the The shifting fog next. She also has another book out The distant hours. Have you read that one? I really like kate mortons style of writing, it just flows so easily. unfortunately I dont have any recommendations but I would also love to hear of any similar books. great idea for a thread melissa

Kathy Hi Melissa,
A kind soul (Brenda) has alerted me to your comment. I am writing an essay on Gothic Fiction for uni and I am keen to know whether The Forgotten Garden contains elements of the gothic as The Shifting Fog does. I've read the latter but not the former. I am trying to establish whether Kate Morton has created a career for herself as a gothic writer, if that's helpful.
Look forward to your response or anyone else who is reading... particularly if anyone has read The Distant Hours as well.

Vanessa | 16 comments I recently read 'Life After Life' by Kate Atkinson. It was a great read and I think would appeal to Kate Morton fans.

Kathryn | 3569 comments I was browsing through some of the different Aussie Reader threads and just found this one.

Using the "similar authors" link that Bette alerted me to here on Aussie Readers, apparently Kate Morton is similar to:

Lucinda Riley, Dana Gynther, Jane Harris, Melanie Benjamin, Karen White, Rachel Hore, John Harwood, Mark Mills, Karen Maitland, Cathy Marie Buchanan, Jennifer Donnelly and Chris Bohjalian, to name a few!

Wow there are a lot of different authors there! Thanks Kathryn:)

Rita Chapman | 151 comments I have only just found this thread. I'm a recent and big fan of fellow Queenslander Kate Morton. I haven't read The Forgotten Garden yet but I have read the other two books and she is amazing. Makes me feel totally inadequate.

Hannah (hannah_mayj) Have just finished The Secret Keeper and had my mind blown!
Morton has a magical ability to completely captivate the reader doesn't she? I couldn't think about anything else while reading this and I just had the overwhelming desire to speak to someone about it!
Its a bad one to read before bed - you'll be up all night!
Have now read all her books and I eagerly await another.
