Philip K. Dick is probably one of my favourite Sci-Fi writers, So I thought I would start a new topic about him.

If you haven't read anything by him and like a good sci-fi novel, I would recommend reading something, he has a way writing a gripping story that will make you think about life once you've finished it.

A few movies were loosly based on some on his short stories, most notibly Bladerunner, Minority Report and Adjustment Bureau.

Kim You're missing one of his most famous - Total Recall. Paycheck was a movie I don't want to remember.

The Man in the High Castle is one of my favourite books. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? was rather confusing when I read it but it was a long time ago when I was a lot younger.

I'd like to read/reread some of his work.

Damn I can't believe I forgot those ones!

But I agree; The Man in the High Castle would be my favourite as well (but I've still got a lot more I've got to read).

Tango I read Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said a few months ago. It was reasonably thought provoking and the premise was interesting. Unfortunately it didn't really develop as well as it could have and I found it was a bit dated. That said, I would read another of his. Possibly a more well known one.

Veljko (_vxf_) | 52 comments I just finished a collection of Dick's short stories. I am always ambivalent about his work... there are so many good (well, more like excellent) ideas, but they stay so unrefined... It's really obvious in his short stories. Others would have milked those ideas to produce multi-book series, while he seems content with just giving us a few sketches, a glimpse of his vision. I don't know whether I should love him or hate him for that - but I sure admire the genius.

Melki | 205 comments Unfortunately, my first and only exposure to Dick was VALIS - which I HATED!

I'm not going to write him off entirely, based on one book, and may read some of the titles recommended above.

Tessa Dick (tuffy777) | 5 comments Melki, I suggest that you read UBIK or The Unteleported Man -- they are not so weird

Tessa Dick (tuffy777) | 5 comments PS: I didn't care for VALIS, either

Melki | 205 comments Thanks, Tessa. I'll add them to my list.

My first exposure to Philip K Dick was thanks to this book club. It was Man in the High Castle and I highly recommend it

message 14: by Kim (new)

Kim And who recommended it? :P

Franky KL, have you watched any of the documentaries on Phillip K. Dick? I see a few on Netflix about him.

I have read some PKD, all of which I liked. PKD liked girl watching and conspiracies.
