Misfit | 251 comments Hmmm. It's a bit more than historical fiction but there's Costain's Below the Salt. IIRC Elizabeth Chadwick's To Defy a King focuses on events leading up to it.

Elizabeth | 42 comments Yes, To Defy A King is about the events leading up to it and some of the baronial involvement in it, but it's seen from the close perspective of two of the families involved, the Bigods and the Marshals. It's not soley about the MC.
