Just watched ...
Spooky Willie, I have just bought Source Code
Source code is very cool... they all have a similar flavour. It`s like the grandchildren of Bladerunner let loose.
:0)
Oh my it's been absolutely aaaages since I watched something !Just managed to catch up on 5 weeks of Emmerdale omnibus if you must know. Actually last movie must be when I went to watch the last Xmen at the movies quite a few weeks ago !
Last movie I saw was Mr Poppers Penguins at the cinema with my wee "nephew" and his mum (he's not really my nephew we aren't related in anyway but me an my husband used to rent a granny flat off the family so we are really close and nephew/aunt is the easiest way to describe our relationship!)It was really good funny and heartwarming so long as you arent looking for anything serious, its completely unrealistic and daft.
I got back this afternoon from watching the Glee movie. As my daughter wanted to see it, I had to provide company and transport. Expected to be bored rigid, but actually quite enjoyed it.
Source Code was excellent. Watched it last night. A touch of groundhog day and sliding doors, both of which I really enjoyed.
I watched Rise of the Planet of the Apes at the cinema on Friday. Hugely enjoyable in a "put brain in neutral and dont expect a social commentary" type of film. Predictable but it made me jump a few times so considering it's a 12A, it could scare younger kids.
I watched Source Code recently. I enjoyed it but it wasn't as complex as I was expecting. Good film.Controversially, I seem to be the only person on earth who was bored by Inception...
I also watched the film of the book Never Let Me Go, the other day. Thought it was fantastic but did spend the last 3 minutes sobbing!
Haven't tried watching Inception, bit worried it might use a bit too much brainpower, and I don't have a lot of it at the moment ! Heard of some people watching it for the third time and still not understanding everything, is it true?
Well- I was worried about that too, but I found that I did understand it actually. The problem for me was that I really didn't care about any of the people in it or about what was happening to them. I think that's what bored me really. I need to care!
The last film I watched was "Kull the Conquerer" Steps back all shame faced! Well it was on (SyFy I think) and White Fang had been boring me stupid!
When did films become movies in this country?? Do you all fill up with gas rather than petrol and open your hood rather than your bonnet?
To be fair to Geoff, the Glee film is actually called in it's full title:"Glee: The 3D Concert Movie"
It's still "Films" to me (see my comment message 11) although I still have this tendancy to call the cinema "the pictures" sometimes. Oh, and Blockbuster is still the "video shop" to me :)
Anyway, what happened to going to the flicks, or the fleapit?I remember in the sixties / seventies (Wake up at the back!) I used to be taken to see films at a cinema that still had gas lighting. Yet, the world seemed so modern at the time.
I last went to see Wallace and Grommitt & the Wererabbit at the English cinema in Cannes. (it just cant be dubbed into French it doesnt work.) Anyway there was a young chap in the audience suddenly shouting and swearing, his pal stood up apologising saying his mate had Tourettes syndrome, when a voice piped up "Well tell him to shut the Feck up" Audience collapsed laughing. When we got outside we witnessed a man suddenly roll in front of a people carrier as if he'd stumbled. The driver drove straight on at him and ran him over totally ignoring him as he'd thought it was a set up. He never stopped at all. It was quite an eventful night out.

Did you go and see Steamboat Willie?

Sorry Vanessa, I had to look that up as I thought you were referring to a porn film ;-)
My earliest film memory is a reissue (and yes it was!) of Pinocchio being interrupted by a power cut (oh those were the days) and us all being given a token to come back again the following night to see it again. I didn't let that token out of my sight.
I always said that the Blue Fairy in that movie was my first love.
I was about 6.
Ian wrote: "When did films become movies in this country?? Do you all fill up with gas rather than petrol and open your hood rather than your bonnet?"Well I watch a movie but I go see a film (or technically its fill-um in my accent, 2 syllables please.)
I watched Coach Carter last night plus Black Knight and some other film where kids rob a bank. It was a very lazy afternoon and evening
Fill-um! I'm told that's how I pronounce it too! I'm constantly teased by my pronunciation of cwawfee. The welsh do seem to enjoy a Canadian accent. I'm constantly told to 'just keep talking, Patti. I lurve your accent!' down the pub.To add something on topic ( for a change) I watched a bit of 'Paul' on the flight. Rubbish. Was hoping for British comedy. Wasn't.
We've got one of our grandaughters (she's nearly 11) staying with us this week - so we've been watching lots of girlie films - Bride and Prejudice (which she loved so much she watched it again the next morning!), Pollyanna (TV movie) and tonight, The Princess Diaries.

I'm amazed you didn't enjoy Paul. I loved it. I thought it was a clever and amusing fill-um. Ah well, it takes all sorts.Just watched I Robot. Interesting quote at the end "Suggested by the novel I, Robot, by Isaac Asimov." I presume the part suggested was the title.
maybe you need to be british to appreciate Paul. I've not seen it so cant really comment but I remember watching Closing the Ring with friends in scotland and me an hubby were in stitches at parts and our pals just gave us weird looks, think it was the NI humour coming through and they just didnt get it. We watched assault on precinct 13 last night, or i should say hubby did while I slept through most of it.
Jud (judder) wrote: "maybe you need to be british to appreciate Paul. I've not seen it so cant really comment but I remember watching Closing the Ring with friends in scotland and me an hubby were in stitches at parts..."I hate the way, when you hit reply, it copies the bit you don't want - grrrr.
Which version of Assault on Precinct 13 did you see? If it was the original, then how dare you sleep through it. If however it was the poor remake then yes, it is the equivalent of Ovaltine.

Hi Judd, Just delete the bits you don't want (or paste the bits you do want, but make sure you leave the bit at the start and the bit at the end ...
Not sure if it will let me identify those bits <.i.>
and <./.i.> (without the dots)
I copy and paste the bit that I want into the speech marks - if that makes sense....?

I didnt write that Simon!! It was Geoff!! I worked that out all by myself thank you very much. It was the remake Geoff *phew* but I had also taken 2 syndol tablets so I wouldnt have noticed if a stampede of elephants came through the flat...
I tend to get a bit confused by the quotes - it isn't the first time I have answered the wrong person....Does anyone else hear those voices?
Jud, you are a superstar! You just reminded me that I need to get some syndol to take back with me. A friend gave me a couple to try when I last had migraine and they worked like magic! Thank you!I think I'm too British to enjoy Paul. It's full of that skin crawling American 'humour'. Makes me shudder.

The odd thing is that it always seems to be me you do it to. I'm beginning to get a complex.

Have just watched `Rango`, it was much better than I expected as it seemed to have avoided putting reviews on the cover, this made me a bit suspicious...Very neat homage to the cover of `fear and loathing` sneaked in at the beginning of it.
Good fun and clever as ever... kids are so lucky nowadays ( especially us big ones )
:0)
Oh yeah I watched bits of Rango on the flight out. Kept getting interrupted by the crew serving meals n such, then I fell asleep. What I saw was really good. Think I'll order the DVD now if it's not too expensive...thanks for reminding me of it, Willie.Just finished watching 'Taken' with Liam Neesom. The ending was totally expected. Dave's now put 'Batman Returns' on. Both on telly tonight.
Has anyone here seen the film Be Kind Rewind? If not, I thoroughly recommend it. Even Jack Black is not his normal irritating self.If you have seen it, then I encourage you to put Sweded into YouTube.

It's a shame, looking at the trailer, it's a lot better than that. Odd really, we went to see the Hangover because of a good preview - God, what a mistake. The film was awful.

It proved to be a real surprise - very clever, quirky and intelligent.
I think `Inception` may have raised the bar a bit, something that has been needed for a while methinks.
