I'm going to start releasing more books (since I'll hopefully be reading more) and was wondering if anyone else is on bookcrossing? http://www.bookcrossing.com/mybookshe... At one stage I even bought some bookcrossing ziplock bags and a rubber stamp :) I really wish someone would catch one of my books ;,(

Hollie I've not heard of this before but I don't know if I could do it. I am a collector of things and stuff and I want to keep all of my books. I got rather upset to discover how many books mum had gotten rid of when she last moved. I occasionally adopt books from my friends and even more occasionally do they get them back :D

I have so many books it is ridiculous. I hold on to all the ones I love but I keep charity shop/amazon marketplace buying. I can't resist buying books that spark my interest convinced I'll read them soon - I find it difficult to dedicate my time to reading when spare time is after 8 at night and I feel like I should be getting back in to art work.

There are controlled releases on there so I might offer them on here first :)

Hollie A swap sections might be a good idea. Real swaps though, not like swap shop. Maybe putting up an "ISO" thread or an "offering" one and do trades with each other?

I was thinking that but after reading the drama that was on the NA forum for swappers it put me off a bit. If it is a straight swap then it might be easy to moderate though.

I'll convert the title of this thread to include swapping and move it to it's own folder.

Would be good to bookcross too (can register the book we're swapping as a controlled release)

Hollie Can you explain to me the bookcross thing? Is it that you lable a book and go hide it someplace for someone to find or do you set up a swap with someone or both or something else? What is a controlled release?

message 7: by Hollie (new)

Hollie I had a thought. Perhaps after the current poll finishes then one asking if it's something people would be interested in before starting a section?

you mean swapping? There is no limit on folders (that I can see) so we might as well keep it tidy and start one. The polls don't seem to get much feedback anyways. :)

Hollie Fair point. You're probably just as well to start a folder then let people get on with it if they want to :)

So what is this bookcrossing all about then? Is it a little like geocaching, where you hide a book and people have to go find it then read it then hide it again?

Just looked at the website, you can either send it to someone else on there who wants the book or just leave it in a station/cafe/wherever for anyone to pick up. You put a label inside to tell people to go onto the website and tell you if they did but I expect most people don't.

I can recommend Bookmooch if you're looking for a good book swapping site. You get one point for sending a book to someone in the UK and 3 points overseas, then you can spend your points by requesting swaps from other members. I've had quite a few succesful swaps and no dodgy ones.

Katrina Williams (missybsleeping) | 32 comments I am on bookcrossing and the local people that have caught my books don't register as doing so, which is annoying. Think I will have to get a stamp or a brighter sticker.
