The Brontës here :) With a very slow pace, but I'm enjoying it. Lot of things I didn't know about them. What about you?

Claire Naden | 3 comments I did not know about this book so I am planning to read it. Thanks for the tip.
Picked up Authors in Context - The Brontes by Patricia Ingham. It is an Oxford Worlds' Classics. Found it in a charming book store, Chaucer's in Santa Barbara.

I think I've seen that book by Patricia Ingham in amazon.. just curious, is it focused on the Bronte's lives or is literary criticism? The site I usually buy books (I mean, that aren't available in Spain) didn't offer any description of the book, but I usually trust in Oxford Editions.
The bio I'm reading is really interesting (but warning, really long: 1000+ pages) so I'd recommend, but I'm taking it very easily.

Samantha (samanthajw) | 2 comments I currently read "Villette." I was a little concerned after reading so many negative comments about it, but I really loved it! I felt that Lucy Snowe and I were kindred spirits, not in the unrequited love area, but more in terms of personality. I wanted to restart it as soon as I finished. Also, say what you will about needing a happy ending, I love it when a book surprises me.

Jayne | 1 comments Hi

Have just joined as I have just re-discovered the Brontes, read Jane Eyre years ago, now reading Wuthering Heights and loving it. Am gradually aquiring the other novels as well as books about the Brontes to read, and have enrolled on a distance learning course starting in the New Year on the Brontes.

Would anyone around be interested in some kind of buddy/group read of C. Brontë's Shirley? I've been meaning to read it for long and this one and "The Professor" are the only ones I haven't read. Just an idea, but let me know, I'm planning to read it in near future anyway.

Erin (erin_gow) Just finished The Infernal World of Branwell Bronte by Daphne DuMaurier. It read more like a story than a biography, but I enjoyed it. Reading about the family from a different perspective (not focused on one of the sisters) was interesting.

Giuseppe V | 2 comments I just finished As I Lay Dying and have moved on to A Tale of Two Cities. I've only read one Dickens before, Dombey and Son, and I really liked it.

Thank you for mentioning this. After reading 3 Bronte novels, I'm really intrigued with Branwell, as it must be his story that has led to the the sisters writing of such volatile characters.

I love reading about Branwell. That was a really entertaining book. DuMaurier is such a wonderful writer. I love her fiction too!

Gea | 7 comments I just started Worlds of Ink and Shadow yesterday. I picked it up at Books & Books in Miami, a wonderful book store. It's a fantasy spin off on the Brontës childhood stories of Gondal and Verdopolis. This book is physically gorgeous. Beautiful cover, plus all the pages have ink blots on them which are fun. It's young adult and nothing too serious, but so far the author really captures Branwell and Charlotte's personalities. Emily, of course, is always a tough one to render and I'm curious to see how her character will unfold.

I'm weak. It's only $1.99 on Kindle right now, so I had to buy it. Thanks for mentioning it!
