message 1: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) On the Gr site I learned about met ups.

Joined the Books and Booze group. I have not made a meeting yet but looking forward to it.

Anyone here in any of these groups?

message 2: by Scott (new)

Scott Dow (scottdow) I just joined the Meet Up group. Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town for the September meeting but I'll definitely try to be at the October one. The group sounds like a good time; books and booze... what more could you ask for?

message 3: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) my thoughts exactly why not combine two of my favorite pastimes.

message 4: by B (new)

B (bshimoura) | 11 comments Michael I haven't been to that one but know of people that have it's pretty popular.

message 5: by Michael (new)

Michael (mikedecshop) Has anyone done any of the meet ups?

feedback?

message 6: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments I know that it's been two years since the last post on the meet up's but since I just joined the group I was wondering if anyone met up yet? It really does sound like a great way to meet people who like to read and may have the same things in common.

message 7: by Taryn (new)

Taryn (tarynthegreek) | 11 comments I'd be interested. They haven't had one since I joined awhile back or at least that I know of...

message 8: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Well I live only about a mile out of New Orleans so if anyone is ever interested in meeting for coffee or something it would be nice to get a little group together. It may be easier for me since I don't work but that means that I'm always looking for something to do when I'm not reading. :-)

message 9: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Hurst | 9 comments I may be interested as well depending on how far away. I live in Mandeville.

message 10: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments I live in Jefferson off of Jefferson Hwy. not far from Causeway Blvd. So you are right across the lake from me Laurie. :)

message 11: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Hurst | 9 comments Well we will have to see if we can get a few people together.

message 12: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments That sounds like a good plan.

message 13: by B (new)

B (bshimoura) | 11 comments There is a meetup of greater New Orleans bookclub on may 17th at 5pm.
It's at La Madeline.

Reading Mrs. Calloway, by Virginia Woolf. It's a dollar on kindle.

message 14: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Hurst | 9 comments The one on Severn or the one at St Charles/Carrollton?

message 15: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Barbara, so anyone can just go and join the bookclub? I would love to go. I even have the book on my bookshelf. I've been meaning to read it for years.

message 16: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments They may have it listed in the Times Picayune. I'll keep an eye out for it.

message 17: by B (new)

B (bshimoura) | 11 comments Laurie, it's the one on Severn, in Metairie. The website is meetups.com, the greater New Orleans bookclub.

Barb

message 19: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments I take care of my parents but I will make plans to be there. I'm excited to get out of the house and do something that I enjoy the most in life, read and talk about books!

B (bshimoura) | 11 comments Now that I have you girls going I'll have to break down and read the

message 21: by B (new)

B (bshimoura) | 11 comments Now that I have you girls going, I'll have to break down and read the book also! Lol

message 22: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Thank you for inviting me and letting me know about it Barbara.

message 23: by Jan (new)

Jan | 16 comments Hi,
Just saw this posting. Been away from Goodreads for awhile. I would be interested in a meetup especially for this group. FYI, the Nola library has book groups. I go to 2 at the Smith Branch, one is for fiction and one non fiction. there is a 3nd on for different genres but not sure when they start as the A/C was broken and the branch has be closed for several days!!
Jan

message 24: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Hi Jan! What part of the city is the Smith branch of New Orleans in? I live in Jefferson so I'm less than a mile down Jefferson Hwy. from Orleans parish.

message 25: by Jan (new)

Jan | 16 comments Smith is on the corner of Canal blvd and Harrison Ave. in Lakeview.

message 26: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments That's my old neighborhood! When I was married I lived a block off of Harrison and Fleur de lis.

message 27: by Jan (new)

Jan | 16 comments Wendy, the next book for the fiction club is The Book Thief and our next meeting is June 10.
the non fiction is reading Outliers and is meeting June 2, I think.

message 28: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Jan, that's perfect for me. I just finished reading "The Book Thief" a couple of months ago and I have "Outliers" on my book shelf. I actually saw it this week and that's a miracle with the hundreds of books I have on my shelves that are waiting to be read. LOL. Thank you, I have always wanted to join a book club and now I have three of them!

message 29: by Jan (new)

Jan | 16 comments Check with the library about the non fiction meet date. I am not 100% sure about the date. Time for both is 6-7pm. the library closes at 7pm!
Wonderful, I hope to see you at both!!

message 30: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments It is usually posted in The Times Picayune everyday. I get a weekly e-mail for the Jefferson Parish Library. I'm going to have to see about signing up for e-mail to the Orleans Parish Library now. I wonder if I can get a library card for both parishes.

message 31: by Jan (new)

Jan | 16 comments Wendy, yes, you can get a card for each parish.

message 32: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments I'll go to the library early and get one. Thanks Jan!

message 33: by Angele (new)

Angele (nolareads) | 17 comments Can anyone show up at the Smith Library Book Club meeting? I was talking a class when my book club read Book Thief, I just could fit in pleasure reading at that point. Therefore, , this would be a great reason for me to read the book. I have the book , so no excuses now.

message 34: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Angele, I'm going to go get a library card for Orleans one day this week so I'll ask when I'm there and let you know if maybe we have to get on a list or anything.

message 35: by B (new)

B (bshimoura) | 11 comments Started reading mrs dalloway yesturday, it seems kinda flowery to me, I'm interested in what you all think?

Bar

message 36: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Barbara I haven't started it yet but I need to. I read so many books that I want it to be the last book I read before the book club meeting since this will be the very first book club meeting that I've ever been to.

message 37: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Barbara, I just joined the Greater New Orleans book club. Well I just signed up and paid the optional dues so I'm just waiting to be accepted. Thank you!

message 38: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments I'm in Barbara! That was fast. I'm happy and excited, now I need to find the book on my book shelf. I might just get it on my Kindle also.

message 39: by Jan (new)

Jan | 16 comments Hello,
For those of you who are interested in the book clubs at Smith Library in NOLA, my best advice is to call and ask. The only limit is the number of copies the library has of a particular book, I think. (one of the reasons I got a JPL card too) Ann Robinson is the library coordinator for fiction club and Michelle Gremillion for non fiction.
Smith's # is 504-596-2638.

message 40: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments Wow Jan thanks! That's quicker than having to look it up.

message 41: by Georgette (new)

message 42: by Kathryn (new)

message 43: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (fuzzarilly) | 26 comments I'm in Jefferson but I go to the Northshore twice a month to visit a friend.
