I just joined the Meet Up group. Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town for the September meeting but I'll definitely try to be at the October one. The group sounds like a good time; books and booze... what more could you ask for?
I know that it's been two years since the last post on the meet up's but since I just joined the group I was wondering if anyone met up yet? It really does sound like a great way to meet people who like to read and may have the same things in common.
Well I live only about a mile out of New Orleans so if anyone is ever interested in meeting for coffee or something it would be nice to get a little group together. It may be easier for me since I don't work but that means that I'm always looking for something to do when I'm not reading. :-)
I live in Jefferson off of Jefferson Hwy. not far from Causeway Blvd. So you are right across the lake from me Laurie. :)
There is a meetup of greater New Orleans bookclub on may 17th at 5pm.It's at La Madeline.
Reading Mrs. Calloway, by Virginia Woolf. It's a dollar on kindle.
Barbara, so anyone can just go and join the bookclub? I would love to go. I even have the book on my bookshelf. I've been meaning to read it for years.
Laurie, it's the one on Severn, in Metairie. The website is meetups.com, the greater New Orleans bookclub.Barb
I take care of my parents but I will make plans to be there. I'm excited to get out of the house and do something that I enjoy the most in life, read and talk about books!
Hi,Just saw this posting. Been away from Goodreads for awhile. I would be interested in a meetup especially for this group. FYI, the Nola library has book groups. I go to 2 at the Smith Branch, one is for fiction and one non fiction. there is a 3nd on for different genres but not sure when they start as the A/C was broken and the branch has be closed for several days!!
Jan
Hi Jan! What part of the city is the Smith branch of New Orleans in? I live in Jefferson so I'm less than a mile down Jefferson Hwy. from Orleans parish.
Wendy, the next book for the fiction club is The Book Thief and our next meeting is June 10.the non fiction is reading Outliers and is meeting June 2, I think.
Jan, that's perfect for me. I just finished reading "The Book Thief" a couple of months ago and I have "Outliers" on my book shelf. I actually saw it this week and that's a miracle with the hundreds of books I have on my shelves that are waiting to be read. LOL. Thank you, I have always wanted to join a book club and now I have three of them!
Check with the library about the non fiction meet date. I am not 100% sure about the date. Time for both is 6-7pm. the library closes at 7pm!Wonderful, I hope to see you at both!!
It is usually posted in The Times Picayune everyday. I get a weekly e-mail for the Jefferson Parish Library. I'm going to have to see about signing up for e-mail to the Orleans Parish Library now. I wonder if I can get a library card for both parishes.
Can anyone show up at the Smith Library Book Club meeting? I was talking a class when my book club read Book Thief, I just could fit in pleasure reading at that point. Therefore, , this would be a great reason for me to read the book. I have the book , so no excuses now.
Angele, I'm going to go get a library card for Orleans one day this week so I'll ask when I'm there and let you know if maybe we have to get on a list or anything.
Started reading mrs dalloway yesturday, it seems kinda flowery to me, I'm interested in what you all think?Bar
Barbara I haven't started it yet but I need to. I read so many books that I want it to be the last book I read before the book club meeting since this will be the very first book club meeting that I've ever been to.
Barbara, I just joined the Greater New Orleans book club. Well I just signed up and paid the optional dues so I'm just waiting to be accepted. Thank you!
I'm in Barbara! That was fast. I'm happy and excited, now I need to find the book on my book shelf. I might just get it on my Kindle also.
Hello,For those of you who are interested in the book clubs at Smith Library in NOLA, my best advice is to call and ask. The only limit is the number of copies the library has of a particular book, I think. (one of the reasons I got a JPL card too) Ann Robinson is the library coordinator for fiction club and Michelle Gremillion for non fiction.
Smith's # is 504-596-2638.

Joined the Books and Booze group. I have not made a meeting yet but looking forward to it.
Anyone here in any of these groups?
