message 1: by Hollie (new)

Hollie I've sent Kirsty a message asking her thoughts and I think that seeing as she started the group she should get final say but I was wondering if anyone would be interested in being the group librarian? I was thinking it would be nice if the group bookcase could be used to keep track of what's being discussed and could have shelves like book of the months gone by, nominated for book of the month, recommended, reviewed etc or whatever you wanted really. Anyone at all in the group can add to the shelf but I think it would be good if there was someone (or a few people) who would be willing to take it on and look after it and keep it stocked and up to date. Just now it looks a bit sad and empty. I would do it but I don't want to be seeming like I'm doing everything and going power mad *evil cackle*.

I think as you are organised (and it's your idea) you should do it but if you want a hand with it I am happy to help out?

message 3: by Hollie (new)

Hollie I could see myself becoming marginally obsessed with it. lol

I don't mind doing it, I just wondered if anyone else fancied a go really. I've been watching to see if anyone would add anything and no one has yet so I think it just has 5 books just now.

I have added some shelves in the past and agree that it would be good to have a librarian - as long as they don't start slinging bananas around ;)
The 'read' shelf should be for books we have read as a group though or it will get confusing.
I've been a bit sick so only on on my phone right now.
Any volunteers for the job?

message 5: by Hollie (new)

Hollie I would agree having it as read as a group makes sense rather than it being if that person has read it or not.

Hollie ps, are you ok and on the mend? Feel better, there is nothing more miserable than feeling under the weather. x

I originally posted this in the wrong bit but I can't see all the books on the group shelf - it says there are 4 books as possible books of the month but only 2 show up - anyone know why please?

message 10: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Not a clue. I had a look and it's doing the same for me. I think there must be bugs because if I go to my notifications section it always says I have one new one but I don't and I can't work out why it's doing it.

Maybe just scrap all of the ones in there just now and start again?

all's well thanks mate. Turned out I'd lost double the usual amount of blood having ds - iron in check and all will be well soon. Stuffy cold still hanging on but enjoying the book!

message 12: by Hollie (new)

Hollie An excellent excuse to get more reading time in that usual. Hopefully the cold comes to nothing. I'm currently chugging a Fuel smoothie a day with an added shot of "health fuel" under the assumption that it is the one thing that is stopping my stuffy nose turning into full blown sinus infection that I had last winter and took months and months to clear.

It wouldn't let me add to the existing shelf so I've had to make a new one for nominations. I can delete it, I was just trying out what I could add

message 14: by Hollie (new)

Hollie If I delete the "possible book of the month" shelf and you replace it with the one you've made how would that do?

message 15: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
I've always had dodgy sinuses and so has the Mr - have you tried ear candling? We had it done in Hong Kong a few months before i moved back to the u.k. (no cup things like over here - just candle) and it worked for both of us.

Sinus pain is horrid and those tablets for them stop me sleeping so I don't take them. Hope you feel better soon x

Depending on how many nominations we get each month, do we need a month by month nomination bookshelf? only count books that get more than 1 nomination?

message 18: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Whatever suits you really. It would even work if it was just a nominations shelf so that if the same books keeps coming up you don't need to add them to umpteen different shelves.

message 19: by Hollie (new)

Hollie I asked about ear candles on IF once and people put me off them. To be honest my nose always feel a bit stuffy now but it's worse than normal just now and I'm hoping nothing comes of it.

message 20: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
There's been a shelf for possible book of the month since we started nominations.
I think I replied in your IF thread. I'd try it if i were you - it won't make it worse but it could make it better. Think I might get it done again too :)

message 21: by Hollie (new)

Hollie I think Jo had to create a new shelf because it wouldn't let her add to the one that you created already?

How bizarre. Looks good (from my phone).
Fancy sending out a mail to those who haven't voted this month asking for nominations. Maybe close voting Saturday? It's been open a while and we still need to poll :/

I'll put a few discussion questions up for the book thief in the next few days. Get things going ;)

message 24: by Amy (new)

Amy | 7 comments Hollie I think the librarian thing's a brilliant idea. Just as long as you don't tell everyone to shush all the time, haha. ;-)

I hadn't actually noticed there was a group shelf, I've still not managed to get my head around this place. I may have added to it by mistake thinking I was adding to my own "to read" list. :-?

Kirsty wrote: "Fancy sending out a mail to those who haven't voted this month asking for nominations. Maybe close voting Saturday? It's been open a while and we still need to poll :/ "

Maybe an email about the poll would be helpful. I didn't know even there was a new poll, and I ended up missing out on voting in the last one :-( Have just found the thread though and voted now.

message 25: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
The poll is opened after the voting for book of the month is closed (the thread gets locked). I mailed for August so I was wondering if Hollie would mail this time around and handle the thread closing, counting and poll opening. Then starting the discussion threads :)

message 26: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Just a quick note before leaving for work to say I've seen this and will ponder through the day and do something tonight.

I think I've added all the books that have received more than one nomination over the past 2 months to the bookshelf - if I've missed any, please add them

message 28: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Will do. I was thinking of doing a shelf for the ones that were in the general recommendations section or that people said would make good films and stuff.

message 29: by Jo (new)

Jo | 592 comments Mod
Have added Octobers nominations so far to the bookshelf :)

message 30: by Hollie (new)

Hollie Excellent stuff. I'll need to go back and change the book shelves of the ones we're reading this month, I think I've still got them on "voted for".

message 31: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
If you add books to the group shelf can you make sure that you add them to the 'to-read' shelf not the 'read' shelf so that it doesn't appear as books that we've read as a group. I've fixed them all :)

message 32: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 17 comments Can i add, that i get sinus pain quite often, hormones affect it as does the weather. As for books, im not nominating for a while, i cannot find anything that grabs me, ive downloaded samples, but ive got readers block lol.

I've been rubbish at my librarian job and forgotten to add all our latest nominations to the bookshelves, sorry. Will do them tomorrow :)

message 34: by Kirsty (new)

Kirsty (kirkel) | 1162 comments Mod
Thanks Jo - I did try to tidy up a bit by changing the books we've read to 'past book of the month' but for some reason we still have loads on the 'read' shelf.

Jo - could you make sure only the books we are reading are on the book of the month shelf? I did some earlier but almost every book needed edited and the teenies were needing attention (I don't usually go on my mac during the day). I think we could do with thinking of how to organise the shelves. One thing would be to create a shelf each for the people who have book journals in here and they can organise it themselves.

Oops, I'd completely forgotten again! If anyone else fancies taking this on, I don't mind handing it over as I'm not doing very well at this otherwise I will have a big sort out of them at the weekend x
