These chapters dragged on a little longer than I wanted. I wanted the inquest over and when Favell showed up, I was frustrated. I realized I still had a little ways to go in this story because of how many pages were still sitting in my right hand. They really couldn't get to London soon enough for me. Again, another great twist in the story. I felt sorry for Maxim because all he had to have done is wait a little longer and no sin would be on his hands. The funny thing is I was anxious about this entire story eventhough we already know from the first few chapters that everything turned out ok in the end. She did an amazing job at holding the suspense even when you knew he was going to get away with it. I laugh now to know that Hitchcock made the movie, because this book reads like a Hitchcock film. I loved this book. It was a really fun read.
I too found it to drag a bit while they were still at the house but this was thanks to my comparison with the film. The revelations don't take as long and Mrs. Danvers is actually present at Dr. Baker's.
It's interesting to see that everything comes out when it finally begins to rain. I love how du Maurier tied nature so closely to the plot of the book.
I really enjoyed the book and loved the ending. It leaves something out, leaves something to be imagined. It's much like the rest of the book where information is held back and du Maurier doesn't tell us everything.

I loved the ending as well, I had to read the last paragraph again to make sure I was understanding what was happening to Manderley. It was so great. du Maurier really treats her readers as intelligent beings and I loved how she left a lot for us to figure out or assumed we understood. I will definately be reading more of her book. I've been told "My Cousin Rachel" is good.
I completely agree with the fact that she treats her readers as intelligent. It's nice that she assumes we can infer what's happened. I hate when writers spell absolutely everything out. It leaves nothing to the imagination.
