You might be interested in Glimpses of Guatemala - a poetry & photography travelogue published in mid 2012. Some of the poems from this book were also published in Spanish in a poetry anthology entitled 'Labios de Arena' which was presented at the 10th International Poetry Festival in Granada, Nicaragua in February 2014.
I'd certainly endorse Bitter Fruit, one of the many books suggested by Diana. I spent three months in Guatemala in 2007 and I'm glad I picked this book up at the start of that trip. It really helped me understand the reasons behind Guatemala's awful past and the meddling and misadventures of the USA/CIA and corporations not only in Guatemala but in much of Central America. Guatemala geographically has to be one of the most beautiful countries in the World. In fact Aldous Huxley said about Guatemala's Lake Atitlan, “It really is too much of a good thing.”
Unfortunately Guatemala's dark shadows of its past have still not fully faded.
