Are you dressing up this year? Are you giving out candy? Going anywhere? Any favorite Halloween kinda books? Discuss.

Yes, I will be dressing up! To my surprise, I have been told they really get into Halloween at the library Service Center, with costumes and candy, and I think even a costume CONTEST.

I am probably going to be Princess Leia, possibly Dread Pirate Princess Leia. I have an eye patch I'm itching to use, you see...

No kids come to my house for trick or treating, sad to say.

Favorite Halloween books: The Simpson's Treehouse of Terror books are pretty great. And anything by Poe, of course.

I like the idea of a dread pirate Leia. Nice mashup, Jackie. I actually have Halloween off, but I'm working at Tumwater the following morning. Ugh. I've been mulling over costume options. I was an infoqueen a couple of years ago, and made a really cool crown out of colored pencils... maybe I'll do that again. I get fewer kids every year, and most of them are pushing the limits of childhood. I swear I had a 23 year old last year. I eyed her with much suspicion, but figured if she had the balls to come to the door, she deserved some candy.

Is the Night of the Living Tribute Bands at OFS, KD? I love The Pretenders, by the way.

And what will you be going to the costume party AS, KD?

I love the pretenders too. Will you perchance be playing "Brass in Pocket?"

Merwyn Haskett | 46 comments Fortunately, the plan of John Manini and I to be Seals and Croft didn't happen either.

Seals and Croft? Ugh! You are truly an enigma, Rummy.

Merwyn Haskett | 46 comments Well KD, we should find some way to combine monsters, celebretards, and giant genitals. OJ comes to mind, but it'd be very difficult for me to masquerade convincingly as him in Oly without being drawn and quartered by the tolerance-brigade.

As for scary rock bands - forget Alice Cooper, Helloween, and all those Norwegian death-thrash cattle-mutilaters. You guys should be Stryper next year.

I don't think I'll be anything scary this year. I won't be a celebretard or giant genitalia either, though, just to strike a happy medium.

Merwyn Haskett | 46 comments For those who are disturbed at the pornographic direction this discussion is taking - I was referring to pistils and stamens, I don't know what everyone else was thinking.

I'm pretty sure it's a safe bet that we're all a little disturbed. I just found out that my friend Jeanne dressed as a giant Lee Press-On nail last Halloween, so now I'm motivated to top that. Pure genius, I say.

I still have no brilliant vision for my costume. Anyone have any ideas for me?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 259 comments Mod
You could be "Harriet the Spy", Agathafrye. Wear a hooded sweatshirt and cuffed jeans with sneakers, put together a toolbelt with a flashlight, and carry a journal. Voila!:

I completely adore Harriet the Spy, did you know that? That's a good idea...

message 15: by Judy (new)

Judy (jpitchford) | 40 comments Harriet the Spy is one of my two all time favorite books - the other is the Teddy Bear Habit. You would make an awesome Harriet, Agathafrye!

Not familiar with the Teddy Bear Habit. Is this it?
"Twelve-year-old George Stable wants to be a rock star someday, but he gets horrible stage fright - unless he has his old teddy bear with him. Hiding the teddy in his guitar seems like a brilliant idea until George discovers that someone has hidden jewels in the stuffing of his beloved bear. Quirky yet believable characters and a funky setting make this one a winner all around."

Judy (jpitchford) | 40 comments Yep, that's it.

message 18: by Kristi (new)

Kristi I just read the latest Babymouse book -"Babymouse: Monster Mash" by Jennifer Holm. No girlie girl princess costume for Baby! :-)
