As the author of two scholarly works on Costa Rica ("Don Pepe: A Political Biography of Jose Figueres of Costa Rica" and "Democracy in Costa Rica"), I used this background to write the spy novel, "The Old Spook," set for the main part in Costa Rica. It's about a fictional CIA operative who interacts with Costa Rican political figures in opposing Fidel Castro in Cuba and the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. For your summer reading pleasure, the price has been reduced to just 99 cents from now until July 19. Available at Amazon.com.

I'm the editor/publisher of: Tortuga Squad: Kids Saving Sea Turtles in Costa Rica
so I'm biased! But wanted to recommend this documentary picturebook set in Costa Rica to folks interested in sea turtles, wild animal conservation, and animal rescue stories involving kids.
It's an inspiring real-life story of a band of village kids on an island in Costa Rica who help with local sea turtle conservation efforts, including patrolling the beaches to help protect mother sea turtles, their nests of eggs, and eventually the tiny hatchling turtles from the dangers of predators (human and animal).
It's second in a series featuring kids involved in wild animal conservation projects around the world. First was Doyli to the Rescue: Saving Baby Monkeys in the Amazon (set in Peru).
