★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments This month we will be doing two different challenges.

1. Read any book that is 400+ pages
2. Read any book from this website

How many books can you all get this month?

message 2: by Zakiya (last edited Aug 28, 2011 08:28AM) (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) I'm aiming for 5, but my super reading goal is 8 :). I'll post as I finish the books.

message 3: by Dee (last edited Aug 31, 2011 06:28AM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments I def. have several large books on the pile for this upcoming month

tenatively
Kushiel's Chosen

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments I'm in. I'll be doing the 400+ pages one and will post as I go...

message 5: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Oh, didn't specify. Only doing the 400+ pages as well.

message 6: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments I am going to do the 400+ page one as well. I will also see what I can read off the bestbooks.org site. Not sure yet.

message 7: by Jodi (new)

Jodi Gilroy (jodigilroy) | 10 comments I am in. Going to read A Long Way Gone. Already requested it from the library!!

message 8: by Shay (new)

Shay | 862 comments Any thoughts about giving a bonus point or two for longer books? Like 1 bonus point for books over 750 pages, 2 points for books over 1000 pages?

message 9: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Yeah, that would push members to get out the ginormous ones.

message 10: by Jodi (new)

Jodi Gilroy (jodigilroy) | 10 comments I am confused about the point system. Can someone please explain? Yes, I am a new member here :)

message 11: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Okay technically there aren't any points, but each book in this case, is worth one point. Shay was asking if we could be awarded for reading bigger books. 1 point for 400+ pages, 2 points for 750+, and 3 points for 1000+ pages. Make sense?

Yes, that's what I meant. Like you could read 5 books, but have 8 points.

message 13: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Yes, like that!

message 14: by Jodi (new)

Jodi Gilroy (jodigilroy) | 10 comments I love that idea. Thanks for clarifying!! :)

message 15: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Haha youre welcome! :D

message 16: by Melissa (new)

Melissa T (melissasmidnightmusings) I'm going to stick with just the 400+ challenge for this month, seeing as I didn't get a chance to read any of the books for the teen reading list challenge in august :( I'll post these as I go. I think I'll aim for five to start and see where I can go from there.

message 17: by Shay (new)

Shay | 862 comments I'm going to try for 10 points- don't know how many individual books.

message 18: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Not sure how many points I'm hoping to aim. Depends on what books I read, so i'll just say 8 books, points are opt. according to the books.

message 20: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Shay, why two points? You would only get 1 for that one. It's not 750 pages.

message 21: by Shay (new)

Shay | 862 comments Zakiya wrote: "Shay, why two points? You would only get 1 for that one. It's not 750 pages."

You're right, thanks. Made the correction.

message 22: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) No problem!

Retribution - 448 pages...ugh, is all I can say...thankfully it was a fast read - but glad I got it from the library

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments I have a question on the 400+ pages one. Do we read books more than 400 pages long? I just finished reading Original Sin (Personal Demons, #2) by Lisa Desrochers and it is only 400 pages and was wondering if I should count it for the 400+ pages challenge.

message 28: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) yep, that would count for the challenge! as long as it's at least 400 it counts :)

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments Zakiya wrote: "yep, that would count for the challenge! as long as it's at least 400 it counts :)"

Okay good! So I finally finished one book for the challenge, lol!

message 30: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Haha, I understand that one! This seems to be hard for me this month, because all of my books want to be stubborn LOL :) I've only got one book that happened to be on the website.

message 31: by Melissa (new)

Melissa T (melissasmidnightmusings) 1. Breaking the Silence by Diane Chamberlain (407 pages, 1 point)

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments I just finished Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore which is 406 pages. This makes it now 2 books I have read this month over 400 pages!

message 33: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) as soon as i finish girl with the dragon tattoo, i'll have two books for this month.

message 35: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments its def. been a slow reading month for me - but I have a couple of longer ones that i'm starting now that i'll hopefully finish before the end of the month

message 36: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 1455 comments It has been slow as well for me...I think I am reading maybe one right now...Oh well. Maybe next months challenge.

message 37: by Dee (last edited Sep 21, 2011 07:15AM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 315 comments I just haven't had a lot of longer reads

message 38: by Melissa (new)

Melissa T (melissasmidnightmusings) Glad to see I'm not the only one whose had a slow go of this challenge. I've only finished one so far. I have a longer one going that would count for it, but it's been really hard to get into

message 39: by Lindy-Lane (last edited Oct 01, 2011 09:32AM) (new)

Lindy-Lane (moonbacklit) | 288 comments I'm currently working on reading two long books this month. I'm not sure that I'll get them finished by the end of September. I read approx. 50 pages in each of the books each day (in addition to the shorter books that I average reading 1-4 a week).

The longer books that I'm currently reading are:
The Land of Painted Caves (Earth's Children, #6) by Jean M. Auel The Land of Painted Caves by Jean M. Auel (9.1-9.28)

&

Through Wolf's Eyes (Firekeeper Saga, #1) by Jane Lindskold Through Wolf's Eyes by Jane Lindskold

Will post a reading status update by the end of the month.

I finished The Land of Painted Caves but neglected to finish Through Wolf's Eyes in September.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments I just finished Between by Jessica Warman which is 454 pages long. This now makes three books I have completed for this challenge so far.

message 41: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Awesome reading, Amy!

message 42: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Finished my second book!

From website:
~ The Notebook (under Fiction)

400+ pages:
~ The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (644 pages)

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments Zakiya wrote: "Awesome reading, Amy!"

Thank you! It's funny how most of the time, the page numbers on goodreads does not match the page numbers of the actual books in your hands.

message 44: by Zakiya (new)

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) Right! And then, usually, if you do find a version that DOES have the right amount of pages, it's not the version you have. LOL! :p

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments Zakiya wrote: "Right! And then, usually, if you do find a version that DOES have the right amount of pages, it's not the version you have. LOL! :p"

Lol yeah.

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 540 comments Is there going to be an October challenge?
