Ok, here are the rules:

- Pick 5 friends or fellow group members.
- Scan their favourites shelf.
- Pick one book per friend.
- Read all five of the books between Sept 1st 2011 and Nov 29th 2011.
- Write a review (even if it's only a few lines) for each one.

(I know my "autumn" dates are off a bit, but this is to make way for an seasonal challenge in late Nov early Dec that I have still to come up with. If you have any thoughts of what we can challenge ourselves to do then, let me know! :p)

I think I have Haunting Violet coming to me from Book Depo (then I wouldn't have to buy any either) but I'm not sure anymore. They take forever to deliver to Europe. All they have to do is put the thing on a boat and it'll be here within 12 hours! On a plane and it's here in less than an hour! So why does it take 2 weeks to deliver? Le sigh.

message 20: by MaraC (new)

MaraC | 59 comments I love this challenge! I'm a newbie here so I hope no one minds me using their fav list!

2. Char- Stolen A letter to my captor by Lucy Christopher

3. Rachel- Juliet by Anne Fortier

4. Tia- The Hollow by Jessica Verday

5. Jaime- Flat-Out Love by Jessica Park

I can't wait to get started. I hope my library can get them all for me!

Of course not Mara. Especially since you chose one of my books :)

I had a hard time picking one so I had to add to my to read list! :)

message 23: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Haha, I'm lucky my to read list is so huge. It means that at least one of ewveryone's books is on my TBR.

Hey, Tara, I don't have any of the books either XD I'll have to get them as ebook, because I think they are not even translated to spanish. No possibility to find them here, so at least the shopping will be easier for you :)

Look for people who've got books on their favourites lists that you've already got at home? Quite a lot of people have the PJ ones so that'd be 3 books down before you even start!

message 31: by MaraC (new)

MaraC | 59 comments I'm too poor to buy all the books I want to read so I just get them out of our local library. Most libraries are online now and are connected to the other libraries in the state. So, all you have to do is look the book up on their website and request it to be sent to your local branch. When it comes in, the library calls you. So far they have gotten me everything I have requested.

Woo! Your library sounds awesome. I like owning the books because I'm a disaster and don't want to ruin someone elses book.

That's awesome!!! I wish my library would work that way. I'd be able to ask for books which are only available in Santiago's libraries!

This is a great idea! Mine are:

Before I Die by Jenny Downham - from Char

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer - from Rea

Poison Study (Study, #1) by Maria V. Snyder - from Anita (Finished - 3 stars)

The Pillars of the Earth (The Pillars of the Earth, #1) by Ken Follett - from Jeshu

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White - from Tara (Finished - 3.5 stars)

Tara your favourites shelf is massive, it would have been a shock if I wasn't familiar with your habit of giving 4/5 stars for almost everything.

I noticed that too afterwards! Great minds think alike, lol. I think it sounds really interesting and it has a great title - very evocative.

That first book of the trilogy is fantastic! The other two were nowhere near as good. :( But you'll both really enjoy Poison Study!

message 39: by MaraC (new)

MaraC | 59 comments Poison Study does look really good! Now I'm gonna be reading it too! :)

message 40: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) Yes, the summary caught my attention! It seems to be something different and new :)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Well, it's really very similar to a lot of fantasy out there, but the food tasting side to it was interesting to read about. Unfortunately, she drops all that in the second and third books so they just become generic and don't live up to what else is available.

Valek is also yummy in the first book! (he doesn't have much of a role and his character was flattened a lot in the other two books, may be part of why I didn't like them as much.) But I fell in love with him in Poison Study! ^^

message 42: by Jeshu (new)

Jeshu (jeshusauria) Well, as long as the first book is good, that's ok! If I read the others, that would be only when I have enough time, not in the near future! XD

hmm... I'm starting to like this Valek. It's always nice to have a character to love and drool (Is that the word?).

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White , which was my pick off Tara's favourites shelf.

My full review is here:

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I gave it three and a half stars. I liked it a lot, it was a refreshing change to your typical PNR books. I really liked the main character Evie, she was neither unrealistically kick-ass or pathetically wet and she had a funny, engaging voice. The romance element was very sweet and there were some lovely sentiments to the story, I just would have liked it to be a bit longer and there be more detail to build up the suspense and give me a better picture of the 'world'. On the whole though, I enjoyed it! :D

I finished Across the Universe by Beth Revis over the weekend. I really enjoyed it. I was that blown away by it that I had to take a few days to mull over just how I can put my thoughts into words for the review. I'll type it up tomorrow.

Going to be tackling Haunting Violet by Alyxandra Harvey next.

Char (CharmaineElaine) Rea wrote: "I finished Across the Universe by Beth Revis over the weekend. I really enjoyed it. I was that blown away by it that I had to take a few days to mull over just how I can put my thoughts into ..."

How many stars did you give it? I really liked it.

message 46: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I haven't yet. I'm tempted by 5 stars, but I think the characters' inability to see things staring them in the face just to keep the story going longer is going to knock it down to 4. I'll still put it on my faves shelf, though!

message 47: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) Lol, I didn't give it 5. It had 4 off me but I did seriously adore it. Only exceptionally good books that have earned 6 out of 5 go on my favourites shelf... well and the Georgia Nicolson series but they are my favourite series of all time.

message 48: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
This was the best YA (that takes itself seriously) I've read all year. I figured it needed to have this feat recognised with a much-coveted spot on the favourites shelf.

message 49: by Char (new)

Char (CharmaineElaine) It's not the best YA I've read this year. I read Between Shades of Gray & The Book Thief is recognised as YA. It should. Give it a spot it deserves it! xD

message 50: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I haven't read Between Shades of Gray yet, though I mean to read it at some point! And I read The Book Thief a while ago, though I view it more as an adult book than really being YA. At least, I feel adults will take more away from it than a reader of only 14 or 15. Book Thief is firmly in my top 5 reads of the previous decade.
