hey arnab,

well actually as u have said u wanted to get started with his work, and by reading short stories u will get to know his writing style more vividly as there will be more stories more characters more of everything.

but at the same time if u want a more solid foundation for his work then as Gorfo (a.k.a. book freaks founder )
suggested go for "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle"

have a great read...

Louise I also enjoyed A Wild Sheep Chase and after the quake - the last one is also short stories.
In many ways he reminds me about Paul Auster, and I enjoy their books a lot.

Ellen (elliearcher) I love Murakami-what's been already mentioned and Kafka on the Shore and Dance, Dance, Dance are wonderful. His non-fiction Underground is very interesting.

After that, I like his collection of short stories after the quake.

After that, I also like everything else I've read of his except What I Talk About When I Talk about Running which left me kind of cold.

Yeah, my sister bought me a novel of his for Christmas, and I'm going to be getting to it soon - coincidences abound

Can I borrow it?

Emma Lou (rubyeskimo) | 8 comments I would say you can start at any of his books. There is no beginning or end, they are all as good as each other. I love ,Norwegian Wood the flow and the story itself is quite haunting but beautiful.

Norwegian Wood, that's the one! Apparently there was just a movie made from it, and you can most definitely borrow it once I get around to it :)

Catherine Brophy (catherinewrites) | 1 comments Norwegian Wood - fine if you enjoy boredom, suicide and walking round Tokyo in a daze of depression. Clearly the guy can write but it bored me rigid.

Try something, Gorfo - you might like it. I think the guy's a genius.
