Could we just make it scary and let people choose whether that's things-going-bump-in-the-night scary or being-stalked-by-a-serial-killer scary or some other type of scary?

Who wrote Apt 16? I was going to read spooky books with two other groups but so far nothing is happening. I don't even know which book to get.

Try the link; Apartment 16 by Adam Nevill. This was recommended to me, by several people. It looks really creepy!

Apartment 16 looked so scary when I read the reviews that it gave me cold shivers! Hope to get a copy.
I should finish The Woman in Black tonight. It really is a spine chiller. I thought I was pretty "immune" to ghost stories. I like them, but I'm not usually scared by them. Somehow Susan Hill manages to write the equivalent of the scary music you get in films which gets to me every time.
Call me tortoise, but I've only just caught up with October reads for various groups! May well find one of my shorter Susan Hill books.
I just tried to get Halloween Party from the library and they only have it as an eBook, isn't that strange? then I did a search for Torment by Lauren Kate and they do not have a copy yet.
So I may have to search the 8th street second hand book store or buy from Amazon. I only buy books that I am going to read more than once unless I get them super cheap.

It's so annoying when only e-books are available. I hate the assumption that everybody has the means to read e-books. Grrr.
