Ulrich (ulricht) | 2 comments Okay, here's what I remember, in this story dragons are red or blue. 10 years is a Decanum, I think. Baby dragons have their wings bound to atrophy their muscles. This is so they can't fly away and can be used in vicious colosseum style fights. Three ten year olds are caught by these dragon-abusing people. The dragon abusers are disappointed that the kids they've caught are too young to work in the mines, so they are put to work looking after young dragons.

Obviously, the kids escape at some point.

So... Any guesses? xD

Library Lady 📚 | 56 comments I dont know, but the book sounds very interesting, so if someone figures it out I might read it!

Do you remember the genre? Adult, YA, MG?

Yeah, I agree with you Lena. Here's hoping someone DOES remember what the title is. :o) And yes, I DO read children's AND YA titles all the time.

Rebecca (liralin) | 198 comments On Google Books, I found a book referencing Decanum, in terms of a girl's "Decanum Ball" (to celebrate her 10th birthday). It's Dragon Quest by Jackie French Koller. It's the 3rd book in the Dragonling series. Looks like there are six total, and have also been printed in omnibus editions where they printed the first 3 in one volume and the 2nd three in volume 2.

I can't find a ton of information on these, so besides dragons, 10-yr old main characters, and use of the word "decanum", I'm not sure how well this fits, but thought I'd mention it in case one (or more) of the books in this series is what you're looking for.

Ulrich (ulricht) | 2 comments Definitely a kid's book, I wasn't in Middle School yet when I read it.

I believe Rebecca is right.

I was about to dismiss the whole series after reading the summary for book one, but it seems like I ONLY read book four. The summary fits my memory on the Dragons of Krad. It's hard to be sure, the little details I remember aren't in the summary, but what is there matches up.

EtA: forgot to say thanks! I've been wondering what that book was in the back of my mind for probably nearly a decade at this point.

Rebecca (liralin) | 198 comments You're very welcome! Sorry, I meant to mention that the 4th book seemed the closest to your description, though very light on details that I could find. Glad I could help :)
