Somebody already mentioned Celestial Bodies. It’s the first and only book I read about Oman. And omg has that book stayed with me for so long. It’s been months since I read it. It had some nostalgic elements I craved for and didn’t know I needed to read. I just love that some old cultural aspects of, say pre-smartphones era was represented. Need I say I am not Omani but loved how this book showed that similar or neighbouring cultures relate to each other in some of their traditions. It’s nice that fragments of the days of old are documented for those who might need to read it. Lastly, the only thing I disliked was choosing the name “London”. I think the mother’s reasoning in the story was justified as far as I remember but I also think an extremely hard to pronounce long Arabic name would’ve been just as unique.
