Jane Eyre
When shall we start ladies?? How many pages should we read before we discuss???
I'm starting school in a week so I might not be as active as I should in this discussion until mid-September. But I will try to read along as best as I can. :) Also maybe we should focus on chapters instead of pages because we probably have different editions but I'm not familiar with Jane Eyre's format. I'm up for whatever you guys decide. :)
Well Chapters work....ok well then why don't we start when u are ready Deb...I am starting full time the first day of school so I will be getting busy as well that gives us a few weeks to settle into our new schedules!!!
Do you want to start Sept. 12th? That's the first Monday of my school year. Seriously whatever works for you guys!!
That is a good day!!! I have a few more books to finish up and that is when we shall start!!!!!!!!!!
MArk it on your Calendars!!!
MArk it on your Calendars!!!
I just finished this recently because I watched the Timothy Dalton movie & loved it. Look forward to watching a lot more movies based on it. Such a wonderful book =)
That time line suits me too. I read Jane Eyre in high school and loved it then. Can't wait to re-read it and discuss with you all.
We do we do we do!!! Monday!!!! Wahooo
Sorry I haven't been on in a bit....been crazy going back to work after 4 years of being at home....I am in bed before 9 pm....CRAZY!!!!
How would we like to do this....by Chapters...I think that would be easiest because we may not all have the same editions and this way we can go slowly in case anyone is having difficulty.

I'm planning on curling up in front of the fire this afternoon and starting Jane Eyre. It has been about 16 years, I think, since I last read it. Spring is only just beginning in NZ, and today is a lot cooler than it has been - hence the need for the fire! I look forward to discussing with you all.
I can't wait to see the new movie. I just read a write-up about it in a magazine, and it was very complementary. I began Jane Eyre yesterday and am already up to Chapter 11. I am loving re-reading it. I adored it the first time around, but it has been so long since I read it that it feels like I'm reading it for the first time again. How horrid the Reed family were to Jane, especially John. However, Bessie, Miss Temple and Helen are all such beautiful characters.
WOW!!! Did anyone else cry through chapters 1 and 2??? How incredibly sad...I cannot imagine the pain that she went through.....
@Desire I think that would work but if anyone has questions please feel free to ask...I would like to discuss this book all the time as I am really enjoying it!!! Why didn't I read this book sooner????

It is really amazing!!! I can't wait to read it tonight!!!
wow...I am up to chapter 5.....I am very proud of Jane for standing her ground with Mrs. Reed. She is a very strong female character and now I understand why so many have connected with her.
I cried a lot during this book I felt so bad for Jane with how a lot of people treated her & the situations she is thrown into. But she was a trooper through & through. A much stronger woman than I would've been in some of her situations.
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER!!!!!!
I am at the part where Helen dies...that is so very sad.
I cannot believe how much that poor girl has had to endure....

Shall I do a review of Chapter 2???
I'm so glad that you all are enjoying it. It's such a good story and it does just get better and better!
OK so in Chapter 2, we see Jane fighting back. She is sent to the red room but she resists the whole way. Jane is blamed for attacking John, when it was he who attacked her and cut her head.
Locked in the red room, Jane wonders why she is always the one to blame...Georgiana, Eliza and John never do any wrong, and all blame gets laid on Jane. Jane also believes that had Mr. Reed been alive he would have treated her well.
Jane believes she sees the ghost of Mr. Reed and starts to scream. Bessie comes running to find out if she is ill, but Abbott and Mrs. Reed insist that she is just trying to get out of the red room, so Mrs. Reed pushes her back into the room and locks the door once more!

Teri-lynn wrote: "Let me know when to post chapter 3"Just got my two yr. old to bed, so now I have some time to read. (Yay) I'll try to get to chapter 6 tonight. Excellent summary Teri-lynn!
Well thank you!! I have stopped reading the book until all catch up!!! So the review for Chapter 3 is as follows.....
*I forgot to mention that she blacked out at the end of the second chapter*
The beginning of the third chapters opens with Jane waking up and hearing voices and being disoriented.
She realizes that the people in the room are Bessie who is cleaning her wound, and sitting in the corner is Dr. Lloyd.
After a while Dr. Lloyd leaves, but Bessie stays with Jane for awhile. Once Bessie learns that Jane doesn't need anything, Bessie calls on Sarah to go and stay with her because Bessie does not want to be alone in the Nursery in case Jane were to die through the night.
The next day, Jane was up and sitting in the room as tears ran down her cheeks. We also discover that Bessie...when the Reeds aren't around...is very kind and loving towards Jane.
Dr. Lloyd enters and asks after Jane. He finds that she is well. They chat for a while and then He asks Jane about school. Jane replies that she would, and so Mr. Lloyd approaches Mrs. Reed about Jane going off to school. Mrs Reed was only to happy to be rid of Jane so she agreed.
Jane overhears Bessie and Abbot discussing her parents. Jane learns that her Father was a poor clergy man and her mother married him against the wishes of friends and they felt the marriage was beneath her. Her Grandfather was so upset that he cut her off from him entirely. After being married a year her parents both got the Typhoid fever...and both died...her father first and then her mother.
