What does anyone think of this book?? opinions??

i waited until all three were out so I could blow through them all together and loved The Strain, i was hooked into the virus and its spread, loved Fet and his inclusion, but my momentum slowed about a third of the way through "The Fall" and I haven't gotten through them all yet

Loved this and the sequel. Can't wait to see how Hogan & Del Toro deal with events in the final book. Certainly doesn't look good, but there will be an amazing conflict between the two (actually three) forces at work.

I loved the first book but couldn't seem to get interested in the next two.

It's ok. I love the new take on vampires, just couldn't shake the feeling, while reading the book, that I was reading a movie script. Too hollywoodized at times.

I read the complete series... meh. It was not scary at all. It all seemed very... unrealized. Like they had a good idea to begin with and didn't know where to go with it in the end. I didn't really care much for the characters except for Setrakian and... well, no spoilers. I'll definitely say that anyone who has read the first book and is uncertain whether they should continue: don't. It will be a waste of your time

I enjoyed this series. Not one of my favorites-of-all-time, not even in the top ten, but it was enjoyable. I have to agree with those who complain about the cliched characters, those were, indeed, a problem. And I can understand anyone who gave up after the first 80-100 pages, because those were, by far, the best part of the series. But it was still fun if you just sat back and enjoyed it for what it is. Also, it had some really fascinating "visuals" and some good action sequences. It was just turn-off-your-brain-and-enjoy fun.

—Still don't know how I feel about the stingers, though. That seemed to be going a bit too far and didn't quite work for me. Anyone else feel the same?

I hate it when your reading a book and the characters know that there are zombies in the subway underground and they climb in anyway. I struggled to get through the book but still (mostly) enjoyed the story, although I thought the flashbacks to Nazi-occupied Germany were a little weird. I don't know that I can attempt a sequel.

I never read these types of books but I wanted a vampire tale where the vampires were actually monters. I only read this one. It was like a movie which again was diff. for me. I now know that one of the authors create pams lymbrith (sorry cant spell it).

I got to the last chapter and then just stopped.

I like this genre, and enjoyed this book. The characters, both good and evil, engaged me. The plot was somewhat familiar, yet had enough twists, additions and nuances to prevent boredom. I'll be reading the next two.

I enjoyed it enough to buy the next two books but they haven't absolutely wowed me. I like the fact that they're bringing back Vampirism as a disease like in "I Am Legend" (the book, not the movie).

I'm actually looking forward to Gus's storyline the most in the next book.

My review of this book on Amazon.
I honestly hate not finishing a book. It happens only once or twice a year, I find myself becoming bored or frustrated or, worst of all, just totally disinterested. But, I keep on reading hoping that sooner or later the book will turn the corner and recapture me as a reader.
This book strung me along until about halfway through, when I finally cried 'Enough!, I'd rather do the ironing!'
It wasn't enough that a book that starts out so promisingly turns out to be riddled with tired and cliched characters. The hero who is fighting alcoholism, for custody of his son, (of course his work, gets in the way of this). The female sidekick with whom he had a brief fling, and now they keep looking embarrassingly at each other. The old man who having survived the Nazi death camps is the ONLY one who knows how to defeat the vampires! The sex crazed rock star and the elderly billionaire who wants to live forever.
And the vampires who turn out to be zombies or aliens. Who knows? Who cares?
Boring, boring, boring!
I won't be reading the rest of the trilogy and I hesitate to take this book to my local charity shop for fear of putting someone else through the misery that is THIS BOOK!

Loved The Strain, didn't really like The Fall. Too long, nothing really happens. Can't wait for Night Eternal.

I think the first two books are good fun. The vampire of the Strain trilogy is an excellent antithesis to the Twilight (blah) stuff. I dig it!
Have not read the last book btw.

They have some interesting ideas when it comes to vampirism that I like a lot, but the character Eph and the situation with his son and ex were completely predicatable. I also found it ridiculous during the battle with the Master what Eph did. It's an enjoyable series but not the best writing in the world. I find Fet a way more interesting character then Eph and his whiney son.

I absolutely LOVED this book. The second one is just as good and I cannot wait for the third and final book in the series. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

I really enjoyed it. I thought his take on vampires was refreshing. I didn't like the second book as much as the first, but it was still enjoyable. I cannot wait to see what happens in book three.

Love this book. Actually reread it before the Fall came out. And I'm not a big fan of second reads. Anxiously awaiting book three!

Can NOT wait for book 3. Loved the different take on Vampires! Also you can try The Passage by Justin Cronin. Great book too. Book 2 of that series is coming out early next year I believe.

I liked his idea of vampires a lot. And I love the beggining of the book. But I think some parts were a bit predictable. Specially in the second book. I didnt like the end of the first book I must say but I still like it and enjoyed reading it a lot.

Excellent series. A new view of Vampirism, if you will. Its a strain of a disease. The characters are great and there is nothing romantic about these vampires. So forget Anne Rice's romantic view (i love her books); and settle in for "unsettling."
