Hi all, my new novel 'A Yellow House' is set in Singapore and just published this summer by Monsoon Books in the UK and available in Singapore as well as worldwide. Do check it out and I love to hear feedback!https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Ten-year-old Singaporean Maya is lonely; her grandmother is dead, her mother is focused on her career and her best friend has become a bully. When Aunty M, a domestic worker from Indonesia, joins the family to take care of Maya and her baby sister, Maya is ready to hate her.
Aunty M smiles a lot, but says little. However, after Aunty M and Maya rescue a fellow maid living in the same building and beaten by her employer, Maya discovers a side of Singapore hitherto unknown to her. She and Aunty M grow closer as they meet more and more women in need.
What will happen when Mama finds out about Maya and Aunty M’s growing involvement with the aunties? Will Maya lose Aunty M too? After all, Mama did say she hates busybodies….
This poignant coming-of-age story, told in the voice of inquisitive Maya, explores the plight of migrant domestic workers in Singapore and the relationships they form with the families they work for.

Set in Singapore JOURNEY TO PARADISE For readers of Dinah Jeffries and Jenny Ashcroft, journey to Paradise is set in Singapore in 1949 on the cusp of colonial change. Bereaved mother Miranda Lewis travels to Singapore in the hope of starting a new life but she soon feels like an outsider and her relationship with her husband becomes increasingly distant. When Nick Wythenshaw, a doctor, encourages her to work in the local community she finds new purpose, but as riots erupt across the country and danger in the region draws ever closer, she is forced to make impossible choices that will change her life for ever.
Themes of marriage, motherhood, displacement, race, inequality, isolation, grief, friendship, education, politics and self discovery peppered with social, political and military history.
Superb crime series by Neil Humphreys, long-time Singapore resident. Only three books at the moment but I'm hoping he'd write more.Full of colloquialisms and part social commentary, part detective story.
"The novel is, most fascinatingly, a marvellous geography of Singapore’s urban and gardened landscape.
Gresham has created a compelling speculative setting around Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, Clementi Forest, the Rail Corridor, Blair Road and other locales, populating a world with multi-species life that allows the non-human to narrate the city.
It is an action-packed, page-turning novel that reveals the author’s fecund imagination of a Singapore which loses control.
In part, this can be read as a parable about climate change and the complete inversion of human-animal dynamics. On the other hand, it can also be understood as a pandemic novel, revealing how human domination is already complicit in the making of a less habitable world for all planetary life."
Shawn Hoo, The Straits Times
