cazdoll | 19 comments So far the only books to make me cry is the Harry potter books, when dobby died and dumbledore,I haven't read marley and me yet, but the film is very sad, hope to read the book very soon :)

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I cried while reading a thousand splendid suns and kite runner....none since then though

message 4: by Gorfo (new)

Gorfo I have an "tearfest" shelf just for this purpose!
ironically enough: Warriors Don't Cry made me cry the most
then there are the typical nicholas sparks books which though I may have hated still made me blubber:
The Notebook, The Last Song, The Lucky One

the last two Harry Potter books! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows especially (Dobby RIP)

The Namesake, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Every Last One, The Time Traveler's Wife, The Sweet Far Thing, Speak, If You Come Softly, The Giver, Frozen Fire, Nineteen Minutes, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Of Mice and Men, Deadline, The Giving Tree, and Bridge to Terabithia

So this extremely long list makes me look like a crybaby but keep in mind it's EVERY book that's ever made me cry :)

Carolyn F. Ditto on The Lovely Bones.

Carol (paperfairy21) | 2 comments The Lovely Bones, anything by Wally Lamb, The last Harry Potter book, The Kite Runner, and Speak, I am sure there were others but it has been a while since a book made me cry. Personally, I find that sad...

message 15: by Fiona (new)

Fiona McGier | 41 comments Everyone who has read my Love Therapy book tells me they cried during some of the scenes. Actually I was crying while I wrote them, so I guess the feeling went into the words and the scenes.
And since my mother passed away just this past December, anything that suggests losing your mom makes me sob openly!

message 16: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 19 comments Suzanne's Diary to Nicholas by James Patterson. I totally embarassed myself blubbering in front of everyone who was on break with me at one of my previous jobs.
Also, Nakoa's Woman. The ending was so sad.

Keerthana | 159 comments Not yet. Its by John Green right? I read Will Grayson, Will Graysonand did'nt find it that great. But I loved The Perks of Being a Wallflower! I cried like a baby for that too. I think I'll try Looking for Alaska if its available here.

message 20: by Brandt (new)

Brandt Cold Days by Jim Butcher..

oh, then you might not like it, but then again Will Grayson, Will Grayson is kind of different from the usual style because it's cowritten with David Levithan

message 22: by Keerthana (new)

Keerthana | 159 comments Yeah I guess. I'll give it a try and see if I like it. :)

message 28: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (courtney6) | 1 comments I know there have been quite a few that have made me full out cry but I can only think of a few right now, and those were The Everafter, almost everything by Cassandra Clare and The Kite Runner. There have been many more, but I know for sure those ones. It takes certain books to make me cry, I have to have connected completely with the characters. They also have to have really strong emotions, too. Even though I don't like crying over my books, I like when they do because it is a sign that it was really well written.

message 29: by Gorfo (new)

Gorfo Arnab wrote: "when will i read so many books? :( makes me depressed already..."

Haha I know how you feel. Everytime I look at the stack of unread and always growing books in my room I wish very hard that I could be immortal, not so that I can revolutionize the world or find a cure for some ailment...but simply for the selfish reason that I want to read everything.

message 30: by Melissa (new)

Melissa First book I remember reading that made me cry was Charlottes Web... of course I was 7 or 8 at the time, but I cried buckets when Charlotte died. Since then, I read Plain Perfect by Beth Wiseman and cried during an entire chapter.

message 31: by Gorfo (new)

Gorfo I don't know back when I read charlotte's web I wasn't much of an animal lover so I didn't really see what the problem was (I was 6/7) it wasn't until I read it later that I kinda felt some emotion pulling at my grinchy heart

message 32: by Johnnybgoode (new)

Johnnybgoode | 8 comments you know I think I would feel a fool if I cried reading a book, I cry listening to music but books?

You've seriously never cried reading a book...read some nicholas sparks man

message 34: by Gorfo (new)

Gorfo Hmmm interesting. I quit the Book Thief after page three. I couldn't make sense of what was happening...although at the time I tried to read it I was probably a little young. Maybe I'll try it again

Kevin (pisarsky) | 10 comments Never Let Me Go

The part at the end where the narrator reflects on her short life and friends, and says that at least "we loved one another all our lives".

That part gets me every time.

I hate to be that person but here goes...Isn't that that movie starring Keira Knightley? I did it...I'm now one of those people

message 37: by Veronic (new)

Veronic (veronicd) Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon
I got so involved in the book, that by the end when one of the main characters got hurt I got upset, cried, and couldn't read fast enough to make sure they were okay.

The Outlander series has made me cry several times. The book White Oleander by Janet Fitch definitely brought tears to my eyes.

message 39: by Nance (new)

Nance (nabpurple12) This year I did read some books that were real tearjerkers...and, it takes a lot for me to cry over a book. Movies are different because the people are right in front of you, whereas, with books, you have to use your imagination a bit more while reading and interpreting the words.

Alice Bliss written by Laura Harrington - an exceptional first-time novel concerning a father who is deployed to Iraq while his family waits at home for his return - so sad

Safe Haven written by Nicholas Sparks - of course, his books are always so emotional...just like everyone has listed in this thread

Night Road written by Kristin Hannah - an author that writes about real-life situations that always impacts multiple characters

The Day the Falls Stood Still written by Cathy Marie Buchanan - a historical fiction novel depicting the running of Niagara Falls and the people living in and around the area - heartbreaking

I had forgotten about Charlotte's Web. What a tear jerkier.

message 47: by Mortira (new)

Mortira | 4 comments I clearly remember trying to read The Green Mile through tears. I also fell apart reading The Lovely Bones, and The World According to Garp - the "under-toad" passage made me laugh out loud and then suddenly start sobbing. Go figure.

Karl Drobnic | 45 comments Arnab wrote: "Karl wrote: "Dr. Zhivago by Boris Pasternak."

The movie is terrific...and the book is even better.

message 49: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (nmm267) | 54 comments If I listed every book that made me cry, we'd be here for a while! I cried while reading Charlotte's Web to a boy I was babysitting once; it didn't matter that a. I've read the book sooo many times and b. I hadn't read the whole book with him, just the last few chapters. He looked like he was so embarrassed for me!

The first book that ever made me cry was Julie of the Wolves, which I read for school; I remember locking myself in the bathroom to cry! The last book to make me cry was The Book Thief...and that was more of a hysterical sobfest than a good cry!
