Chrissie Barry, now this group has everything! It is even pet friendly! I cannot post pictures here but I have several of Oscar, who is on my avatar with me, on my profile. Here is a link to those photos:
http://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/6...

Do you see Oscar with me? He is all back and photoing black dogs is a huge challenge. He is a Curly Coated Retriever. I have had many, different breeds and now I would have nothing but this. I got Oscar when Skye died a little over two years ago. There is a picture of Skye there too. I love Oscar and books, OK - my husband too! Oscar, he loves swimming and running and carrying sticks or rather huge logs!

He had a very tender stomach for more than one year.... this was a nightmare. But now he is happy and healthy! Dogs are an obligation, but they give back tons of love in return. What you put in, you get back ten-fold or more. I simply could not live without a dog.

On this theme, may I recommend two wonderful books: Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog. My review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

and

Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl
My review : http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I really am not a big lover of pet books, but these two are excellent.

Chrissie Barry, taking pictures of dogs and other pets is HARD. They will not sit still and I certainly could not hold Oscar any more! We weigh almost the same and he is clearly stronger than me. Is Sally, full-grown there? And what is a Sasquatch? Please explain about Clyde. I am lost in your explanation.

Maybe a picture would be charming!

message 5: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Barry, I haven't had a chance to test following your complete instructions, but I will. Thank you. Can't I just assume that other pictures taken with the same camera will need the same width and heigth? I also haven't figured out how to get the picture on its own tab. I will futs with it.

Can you see that toy in Oscars mouth? It is his favorite Kong that floats. In France a guy tried to steal it! Give me a break, stealing a dog's toy. He threw a stick in and thought Oscar would go after that, but - NO: He likes his Kong best. And carrying logs.

Akbash retrievers are big, like Oscar! Oscar weighs 38kgs and that is approximately the same as your dog in lbs. It is pretty funny, him and me together. He is big; I am small. We both are in black. :0)

Chrissie Test Photo of Oscar carrying a "stick/log":

Oscar's two favorite occupations are swimming and carrying/retrieving logs.

I am amazed it worked, but I used the dimensions you used Barry because I could not see the original ones. What I did was send the image to an email and then copied it into the html code. I didn't really open a nex tab...... I was unsure how to do that with Firefox.

message 7: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Barry, I got out my trust magnifying glass. :0) When I right click it does no say "open new tap". The possibilities are:
1.view image
2.copy
3.copy image location
4.save image
5.send image
7.set as desktop backgroun
8. view image info
I hadn't seen that last one, which in fact says the url and the dimensions!

What I chose was send image. Then I copied that into the html code you gave me. I think next time I will go to 8, write down the dimensions, copy the url and pste it into your html code.

Do I have a different version of Firefox than you? Which of those eight alternatives would open up a new tab?

We can take this as instructions for others who need to learn, as I have........

Janice (jamasc) This is Cleo:

Kitty in the Books

She is recommending that I read The Camino : A Journey of the Spirit for my Spain selection and The Red Tent for Israel. Smart kitty!

This is Zena:

I don't have a picture of Zeus on Photobucket.

message 9: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Hi Cleo and Zena! You don't need a photo on Photobucket! Just follow Barry's instructions. If I can, so can you. I am sure. Nice photos. You have a talented cat.

Ally McCulloch (allymcculloch) My mom likes dogs. And that is okay. But here is the problem. She inhumanely put her dog to sleep and just got a new one called Fluffy. Fluffy likes to bite and chew everything, including everyone's shoes. That's not the problem.

The problem is there is this stray cat named Scarla. She is so cute. She bites everyone too, but not hard. She is the only thing I love in the world, andmy mom won't let me keep her.

Here is the kicker. She has an employee that lives with us. And she let the employee take the other stray cat to "protect" it from Scarla. So the employee gets a cat and I don't. I hate my mom so much right now. I tried not to hate her. But here I am, almost 30 and my mom is still telling me what to do.

When I get back from New York City on a trip, I am just going to keep Scarla in my room. I have pics, but I am too lazy to upload them to my computer and then to photobucket. You will have to wait. But I am sure you want the backstory in the meantime.

Any Goodreaders in NYC that want to kidnap me?

Thanks.

Chrissie Allison, I am double your age and my Mom is still ordering me around. In fact, mothers get worse as they age. What have I said? I am a mother too.

Aww, well, thank you for the support. I guess both of us need to read The Piano Teacher this year (unless you've already read it).

message 14: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie The Piano Teacher has been on my GR shelves for ages. This book is just a maybe for me. I mean, one has only so many minutes per day.

message 15: by Ally (new)

Ally McCulloch (allymcculloch) That is definitely true. I DID see the movie. I didn't get the point back when I saw it (and was confused why the book won a top prize). But I think I'll understand it and perhaps like it better if I read it within the next year or two.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments My dog has a thing for library books. He will glance at me and sniff them, and then if I don't say "Bailey... no...." he will delicately reach his tongue out and LICK THEM. Just once. He just wants to taste them.

message 17: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Jenny, is Bailey a beagle? I read a sample of a book before choosing it...... He is descerning too! What a cutie!

Think of how empty life would be without our pets. I remember all my dogs. Each one was special in their own way. And Tizzy, my lope-eared rabbit was so special. She lived in our apartment in Stockholm. Her feet got sores from the hard wooden floors so I had to buy those sock with plastic so she wouldn't slip when she hopped arund the place. She was brown and so sweet. When she died I decided I would never have a rabbit again. I was possed that vets could do so little for curing sick rabbits! I switched back to dogs. I have always taken my dogs with me to work!

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments Chrissie wrote: "Jenny, is Bailey a beagle?"
Yes, he's of the smaller variety, and was also the runt, we think. So he looks tiny next to "regular" beagles. Good thing because he thinks he is a cat... or a person.

message 19: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Well, he is a discerning canine "book reader".

message 24: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 182 comments My current profile picture is of my new kitten, Luisa. But here I will give a "shout out" to all the kitties I have or have had as an adult who sit with my while I read (or watch sports): Stella and Peaches who are still here and on the bed; and Pablo, Olive, and Ramona who I will always miss.

message 25: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Daisy, she is so beautiful. Oscar sends her a slurp - je loves cats, kittens and all pets. He knows where all the cats on the street live, and he has to check out every window on a walk. How old is he, Daisy?

message 26: by Daisy (new)

Daisy | 182 comments I guess Luisa is 10 weeks or so now. In the picture she was about 7 or 8 weeks old.

message 27: by Chrissie (new)

Genia Lukin It's also obvious cat number two thinks the tree is a giant cat toy.

I know our cats think exactly that.

Janice (jamasc) Judy, those are lovely pictures of your cats!

My friend Simon who is LURKING while he plans his list has a dog named Paddington. We need pictures.
