Good books to start with are the ones by Lisa Schroeder and Ellen Hopkins I'd say. Personally I think Ellen Hopkins is more skilled at verse writing but her topics are also very dark (drugs, violence, death, abuse) so that might not be for everyone.
I haven't read the book yet, but Because I am Furniture by Thalia Chaltas is in verse. I am with Sara, WMMDK was a great book.
Out of the Dust was in verse. I didn't particularly care for it, but it won the Newberry. Love That Dog is in verse and that was cute. I also am a fan of Hopkins' books. Come back and let us know what you find, Sam.
I read Crank by Ellen Hopkins..really liked that. A bit dark. Also, Purple Daze is a book in verse set in the 60's. It was good but not great for me.
