Denisa Dellinger | 44 comments Elinor was sort of the main character of the book. She was the one who had "sense", Marianne had the "sensibility". She was the practical one, Using common sense and knowing what should be done in their circumstance without showing too much emotion.(having lost their father and home). She took over the decisions because, like Marianne, Mrs Dashwood was born with a great deal of sensibility. She handled the finances. She fell in love with Edward and endured misery when that Lucy Steele confessed her engagement and talked hours on end about their "great love" for each other. She was sworn to secrecy and could not tell a living creature about her heartbreak. She faced the world with a positive outlook no matter how much she hurt. She was a friend to Lucy and Edward after the engagement got out. I loved the scene near the end where everyone thought he had married and he came in and told them that he wasn't. She at last could stand it no longer and burst into tears and ran out. I think I would as well if I were her. She was faithful and steadfast to all who loved her, even to Willoughby, and she was rewarded in the end with Edward being hers at last. Jane sure knew how to end a story. This was one of the most rewarding endings of a book I've ever read. The true and moral good of a person is rewarded. That is not always true in real life.
