Charlotte and Thomas

Charlotte was a flibbertyjibbet and a little dense at times. I could not get over the blinders she had on over her husband. She would laugh and call him droll when she would try to talk to him about something and he would contradict her at everyturn. She certainly saw another side to him that others did not see. I can't get my mind around the contradictions of her blind love. She was pregnant at the time. Mrs Jennings joked to him that he had won her fair and square in the bargain and he could not give her back. Mr Palmer was a very serious minded political stick in the mud. He was going for an MP. Whatever that was. He was preoccupied with the paper and the news. He acted irritated whenever anyone spoke to him and to get him to talk was like pulling teeth out of him. I can't put my finger on his and his wife's relationship. There must have been tender moments else Charlotte would not have been so passionate about him. I like to think it was their little joke between themselves and when they were home together, they would laugh at people's reactions. They did take the sisters home with them but left them in their house because of the illness and the child. I remember in the movie where Elinor came and knocked on his door to tell them Marianne was very ill and he looked very concerned and was very accomodating to her.

I believe an MP is a Minister of Parliament? Someone can correct me if I'm mistaken.

No offense to the actress who portrays Mrs. Palmer in the Emma Thompson version, but she doesn't exactly fit the physical description of Charlotte Jennings Palmer in the book. In the book, isn't she supposed to be a beautiful girl that Mr. Palmer married based on her looks alone? (Stupid man! Mr. Bennet could've told him how well THAT turns out....)

Very true Jenny. What is it with these men? They seem so strong in one sense and then get snowed over by these women. Do they think they can change them? I thought that was the woman's little "peccadillo". We think we can change the "bad boys".
