★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩★✩How to enter some of the symbols with the alt key combo.
Here is a link to the such as alt+3 for ♥ and alt+1 for ☺
Be sure to use your numeric pad (as the numbers on the top row of your keyboard won’t work) and turn your num lock on and your caps lock off!
alt key combo chart .
Notice, the symbol won't appear until after your release the alt key, as the number sequence can get into the thousands.
★ solid star = Alt + 9733
✩ star outline = Alt + 9734
Hope it helps.
It is! ☺ I just can't get the star to work... but someone in another group did. So, maybe those codes are for the laptop?
★ ✿☺ I am practicing...☀ ☆ ♥ ♦ ♣ • ◘ ○ ☺ ☻ ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ • ◘ ◙ ♂ ♀ ♪ ♫ ☼ ► ↓ 7 ▲ § hmmmmm I likey this alt stuff LOL
I copied and pasted and then I held down the alt button and just typed in random numbers for the rest LOL
I tried finding the code for that, but only found this:http://www.fileformat.info/info/unico...
I have no clue how to use it, though. Lisa, you are the expert....does it make sense to you?
Is this one of those... it only works if you have a numeric keypad to the right of your keyboard? It is the font wingdings I believe so you must also have wingdings 1 and 2 in your computer memory.
Melanie wrote: "so what exactly are the keystrokes??"First type in an ampersand: &
Then type in the numeric sign: #
Then type in the numbers: 10047
Don't put in any spaces between any of those.
I'm not using the numeric keypad. The fonts are MS PGothic and MS Gothic, which GoodReads recognizes. Still, if you don't have it loaded... I'm sure it wouldn't show.
OMG!!! It worked. So moral is throw out the brain it only creates problems and do what you are told. Thou arte a goddess LK!
A ? Means you are doing some wrong, Melanie. Tell me exactly what you are doing/typing and I'll see if I can help.
You can install just that one font, Pamela. On Kindle now... but I can tell you how later. I think. Do you have PC or Mac?
Ah! The flowers are "double bite" fonts instead of single. This might help you: http://www.helpware.net/FAR/help/Unic...Specifically: In Windows 2000/XP/2003 you can set the Windows language (codepage) via Control Panel > Regional and Language Options. Some characters may not display correctly if the current font is not compatible with the current code page.

One helpful Powerpoint user came up with this suggestion (you know who you are, Jeff):
Make sure you have Arial Unicode installed. If it's not already installed as part of Office 2000 or later, you can find it here.
( But Microsoft may have since removed this ... sorry. See the bottom of the page for more info about Arial Unicode )
Since unicode fonts can contain all necessary characters for Asian text, PowerPoint should allow you to substitute Arial Unicode. This should make the warning messages stop, at least on any system with Arial Unicode installed.
If the presentation was originally created on a Japanese/Korean/Chinese version of PowerPoint, there may be an option to save using only non-asian characters/fonts. Have the user open the file, choose File, Save As and check the Save As types for something like "Western characters only" or similar options.
How to install Arial Unicode
Arial Unicode MS is included with most of the Office 2000 and later versions but isn't usually installed by default. The exact steps you'll follow to install it may vary depending on which version of Office you have, in general:
Insert the Office CD and let setup start (or run SETUP.EXE from it if it doesn't automatically run)
Click Add or Remove Features
Click the + next to Office Tools
Click the + next to International Support
Set Universal Font to: Run From My Computer
Don't change anything else (unless you specifically want to add/remove other stuff while you're there)
Click Update Now
When Setup finishes, Arial Unicode MS will be available to PowerPoint and other programs.
♣ I get a Club when I do alt 9733 not a star. ♠ and a spade with 9734?
but the ones I get to work are cool! Thanks!
I had a lot of fun playing with this. It works when i copy and past the stars so I guess I'll do it that way! Or I can just start rating my books 5 ♣ for fun!

Just put your cursor/mouse up to the left (or right) of the symbol posted to copy it. Click the left mouse key and hold down while moving the mouse until the star is highlighted. Then right mouse click to copy.
Or, if you type (most) everything in WinWord first (before posting to GoodReads) like I do, you can use the MS Gothic or Malgun Gothic fonts. To see what is available, use the "insert symbol" command. If you don't have it, here are some popular ones for you to copy.
Some more symbols for copying.
