2. my favorite types of books are fiction, romance novels, biographies, the books from the Very Short Introduction collection(Atheism,Economics, etc.)
3. This is my first semester at BCC. I'm a full time student. It seemed like fun. My goal is to try to read more books throughout the year and by joining the BCC reading Challenge, it gives me an incentive.
4.My all-time favorite author is L.M. Montgomery, the author of the books from Anne of Green Gables. Her protagonist, Anne Shirley reminds me of being able to dream and go after your goals in life as well as not to be be afraid about being different. It brings me back to my childhood yet I feel like her books can still give me insight of what I aspire to be as a person and how many things I have learned as well as the many things I have yet to learn about life.

2. What are your favorite types of books?
Humor, Horror, YA, Science fiction/fantasy. I also really like a few biographies, especially ones of self deprecating genius.

3. Why join the BCC Reading Challenge??
It gives me a reason to read. I have a "no outside books" clause in place during semesters because my writing tends to shift with what I'm reading. Now I can waive the clause and consider it school reading (somewhat).

4. Who is your all-time favorite author?
The most influential to me would be Douglas Adams- hands down. Ask me about the more contemporary authors and I'd respond that it's difficult to say, really. I admire Stephen King because he put out my all-time favorite book series (The Dark Tower), but I can't pick up anything else with his name on it. I've also been inspired by the YA of Garth Nix and D.M. Cornish, and the humor and mirth of Christopher Moore and A.J. Jacobs. But again, consistency. I think that this is what separates a great author from a legendary one.

2. My favorite type of book? Categorically, I suppose that would be fantasy. Really, I just want to do something other than stare at nothing in particular as I ride the subway. Fantasy novels (humorous or dark) provide just the right flavor.

3. Why join the BCC Reading Challenge? There's a nook in it for one lucky studious reader, and I am willing to be that guy.

4. Who is your all-time favorite author? I have two:

Barack Obama and Jon Favreau. "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope" were amazing.

Together, these two men have crafted/delivered some truly amazing speeches, although I suspect there were many more people involved.

Also, George RR Marlin.

Julia Rodas | 5 comments I'm a BCC English professor and a book addict. Like many of you, I am an avid SF reader, but I also have a powerful hunger for 19th century domestic fiction, novels written by folks like Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, Anthony Trollope, and Elizabeth Gaskell. (You can find out more about me and my reading, writing, and teaching habits at https://bcc-cuny.digication.com/julia... where I also keep a little book blog.) Thanks for including me in the Challenge and good luck!
