I also thought that was a good touch in the movie with Jacob. I missed the blood typing too especially since I really identified with Bella on that. I am also blood type 0 negative and I also pass out. Edward's thought on all that were also interesting to me. I suspect that Stephenie Meyer also passes out as she describes it so well.
Mean girl cameo? We did go to the restaurant in Forks that was the basis for that cafe. It was really bad but the steak that Charlie ate every Thursday was fabulous, however, no berry pie..sigh! I was super disappointed in the crew there as they didn't care about Twilight. I think we visited every restaurant in Forks. The one that had the Bella Burger was the most enthusiastic. Also City Hall was great. I got two pins there.
Yes, that was another good touch with Riley. I felt so sad for him.

The cafe was pretty much movie only, and if a mean girl were to write a screenplay that she might have the author cameo be in a spot not written by the author.
I suspect that Stephenie Meyer is so shy she didn't want to do the cameo so someone had to talk her into it. I watched the movie several times before I even spotted her.
Don't forget to vote in the polls. I just created one. Do you believe in love at first sight? Do you think that Bella fell in love with Edward immediately?
I think she fell in love before he fell into blood lust.

Stephen and I both agree with you on that. I also have type 0 negative and faint at the sight of blood. Once it took them 30 minutes to revive me. I identify with Bella Swan as I also tend to have dizzy spells and fall down. I once passed out and fractured my arm.

Page 135 says that when they were going to make the movie New Moon they were so out of touch that they were "depicting Bella Swan as an athletic, butt-kicking Charlie's Angels-type on jet skis with the FBI running around: a generic action-adventure that would surely have disappointed Meyer's fans and, in the process, prematurely killed a potentially lucrative franchise. Had that script been developed into a movie, SM ermarked that had its title been removed, no viewer would ever have connected it with Twilight."
Hollywood is so stupid but at least they finally woke up.Bedazzled: Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight Phenomenon

At least they finally bought Meyer in to be sure the movie stayed true.

I absolutely LOVED the scene in which they introduced Jacob in Twilight. That Bella nails him with the truck door when she first tries to get in was perfection itself. It helps establish her clumsiness. It forshadows her hurting him unintentionally but repeatedly throughout the saga. And it does it with a very short piece of business.
On the opposite side. I really missed the whole blood typing/ Bella passes out around blood thing as it adds such contrast to her later (book four) appetites.
Somewhere in the middle I was ambivelent about the addition of the whole "Charlie always eats in a restaurant" movie stryline. From reading the books, Bella cooking was a big part of the movie in my head. And I really didn't get the "guy who played Santa" thing. My discomfort was compounded when they staged the "Caring Citizens Corner Chief Charlie at Cafe" scene in New Moon. They may have needed some exposition about the werewolf threat but the whole "we're tracking a human footprint" thing felt outta sorts with the level of reality the rest of the scenes were maintaining.
Also on the restaurant front... I wondered why the author cameo took place in a locale that was entirely missing from her books. I'm guessing that it was just a scheduling thing but the mean-girl in me wondered if there might have been a dig intended by the screenwriter.
Finally, I wanted to mention how Riley was developed a bit more in the movie than in the book. I particularly liked that. Making him a former resident of Forks informed Victoria's choice of him as someone to lead her newborn army and it sorta tied in with the picture we develop of Victoria in Twilight being the one that does James' research.
