We've aquired some new members. In case anyone wanted to introduce themselves, I thought I'd make a spot :o)

I'm Stacey Jo, oldest... no, not the oldest :o) but longest standing member of the group. I've been here for about 4 years. I've been through 3 group leaders now. I'm the silly one that must be frequently kept under wraps. Sorry :o/ I try to stay on track. I torment Daniel and Eric with my naughty book covers bwaa haa haa. But I think they've fixed that...

I looked on here and to my surprise, there are all these new people. Hi new people! *waves*

Don't worry Aprile, someone will smack you if you get too far out of hand ;o) Just kidding! With me there, there is no telling what no-good I'll be up to anyway. If you want to see the guys squirm and groan, just let me pull out my phone and whip out the eBooks. Daniel can attest to this LOL! Everyone gets vocal at some point, just depends on the subject matter of the book, you should see Eric when we're talking about zombies, go-go girls and the end of the world LOL!

message 4: by Twila (new)

Twila (tbrooksesquire) | 17 comments I just found this on Goodreads. As Stacey can tell you I am challeged with these things. I think I know everyone but I am the second oldest member of the group. I joined in 2007 at Stacey's invite. I always enjoy new reading suggestions in sci-fi/fantasy as my formal background is pretty heavy in British literature.

message 5: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments Hello everyone :) I'm new to the area, and also to Goodreads. I've never been in a book club before, but it sounded like something fun to try. I'll do my best to get the January book read in time. I was just wondering if you already know when you will be meeting to discuss it?

message 6: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Jamie,

We are scheduled to meet on the book Monday jan. 28th at 7pm. Lord Valentines castle by Robert silverberg

If you would like to stop by feel free even if you haven't finished the book. Not everyone always gets completely finished. To be honest I am at the half way point and am scrambling to finish :)

message 7: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments I'll do my best to make it. Thanks so much! :)

message 8: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Look forward to seeing you there. Like I said even if you just want to stop by and say hi. We are guilty of occasionally getting off track from the book and just chatting.

message 9: by Twila (new)

Twila (tbrooksesquire) | 17 comments Daniel wrote: "Look forward to seeing you there. Like I said even if you just want to stop by and say hi. We are guilty of occasionally getting off track from the book and just chatting."

Daniel, I just laughed til I had a coughing fit on your comment about 'occasionally getting off track from the book'.

message 10: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Hey I was attempting to be subtle ;P (raspberry noise)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) | 214 comments Mod
I slacked this month, and I think the last two months or so in not sending out the meeting notices reminding about the meeting date, but you all seem to find your way there ;o)

And don't worry Jamie, I didn't read the book this month. I've been to busy to get around to it. I still go even when I don't read because Daniel and Twila and the rest of the group would be absolutely crushed if I didn't bless them with my presence (snickers)

And we don't really have a set meeting spot either. You just have to walk around and look for the group of about 8 or 9 people sitting together chatting. You'll know it's us because we exude a level of coolness that everyone is in total awe of. LOL! I'm being a dork.

Hope to see you there

message 12: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments Lol, it sounds like fun. I look forward to meeting everyone. I have long black hair and a broken foot. If you see someone fitting that description wandering around looking lost, holler out my name and I'll find ya :) Thanks!

message 13: by Twila (new)

Twila (tbrooksesquire) | 17 comments Jamie, I hope you are able to join us. While Stacey is our true leader the official book group leader (representative from Jo Beth) is Mark Matics and if you ask for him you can find us without wondering around too much on your broken foot. I spoke to Mark yesterday and he looks forward to meeting you. I totally agree with everything Stacey said in her post. LOL!

message 14: by Stacey Jo (new)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) | 214 comments Mod
Well, that would be the easiest way wouldn't it, just ask customer service or ask for Mark. But that's the whole stopping and asking for directions thing and I have to be hopelessly lost before ill ask for directions :0) And I'm not the leader, I've just been around forever and know how to use goodreads, or how to torment others with my goodreads (Daniel and Eric... Bwa haa haa... really, I'm glad y'all got that fixed though).

message 15: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments Hi y'all! My job had me working Monday evenings for a little while, but I'm back off of them! :) What's the next meeting date, and what book are we reading?

message 16: by Twila (new)

Twila (tbrooksesquire) | 17 comments We worried about you (we were afraid we scared you off) last Monday. We are meeting next on July 1st and we are reading Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

message 17: by Stacey Jo (new)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) | 214 comments Mod
I'll get this group updated for the next meeting and I'll be at that one.

message 18: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments :) sounds great... & no u guys haven't scared me off... U will just have to try harder ;-P

message 19: by Deborah (new)

Deborah Trimble | 1 comments I just joined Goodreads, and found this group. I am an avid reader and a sometimes poet. I live in Berea, but work in Lexington. I hope I can join in sometimes.

Daniel | 85 comments Hi Deborah. Feel free to come and check us out. Our next meet is July 1 7pm somewhere in the store.

I Deborah! We love to have new people join in. We're usually up by the sci-fi books unless there is a speaker there that night and then we are by the fireplace or if that spot is busy too, like Daniel said, we are somewhere in the store. Just ask one of the staff if you can't find us. I try to keep the group up to date on when the meeting is and what book we are currently reading (in the Current & Upcoming book talk folder). Welcome to Goodreads too. I co-moderate another group of over 10K members so I'm on here ALL the time :o)

Are they expecting the turnout to be too large for JB? Wonder why he's going to be elsewhere? I want to see him... total fan girl here.

message 26: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments No one I spoke to at store knew but I am assuming what you said to large a crowd.

message 27: by Becky (new)

Becky | 2 comments Would you mind if I maybe came to your next group meeting? I saw where you're reading "Good Omens" which has been on my "want to read" list for a while. I'm trying to get myself to read more. I used to read all the time. I figure going to a group might be a good jump start back to reading more.

message 28: by Jamie (new)

Jamie | 7 comments Welcome Becky :). I'm a newbie myself, (joined in January), very nice people, entertaining discussion, fun group! Hope u can make it.

message 29: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Sure come on by. We don't always get to meet in the same place in the store because of different events they have. Usually we have been meeting in the center of the fiction area. And be prepared we get off topic easily from the book :)

message 30: by Aaron (new)

Aaron | 4 comments Hi all. I noticed the group on the calendar of events at Joseph Beth. I won't be able to make it this month, but I would love to join you folks in April. I'm excited to have people to talk books with.

As far as who I am, I live in Richmond and work as a staff writer/reporter for a non-profit and I'm an aspiring fantasy and RPG writer.

message 31: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Feel free to stop on by. Our April book is S. Which I am a bit daunted by but we will see hopefully I can get through on time. Be forewarned we can get off topic easily :)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) | 214 comments Mod
We love having new people :0)

I won't be there tonight. I have to go to something in Dylan's class. Some parent thing so I'll see y'all next month

message 33: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Hutchinson (kaylahutchinson) | 42 comments I just found this group on Goodreads and have been hunting for a good book club. Does this group still meet at JB?

message 34: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Yes. Were a small group that mainly reads scifi with some horror and others. Basically we try to vote on suggestions by everyone.

I believe we meet next this coming Monday 6/30 at 7pm for a scifi future with hints of steam punk novel called "Ack Ack Macaque" by Gareth L Powell.

Feel free to come by even if you haven't read the book. Not everyone always gets to or ends up liking some choices. But we all try to meet and harass each other anyway.

We don't always get to meet at the same location inside the store so ask around. Sometimes they squirrel is away in the bistro restaurant inside the store.

message 35: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Hutchinson (kaylahutchinson) | 42 comments I'll definitely stop by just to meet everyone! I won't be able to read this month's book in time for the meeting, but I will definitely be doing next month!

message 36: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Great hope to see ya there.

message 37: by Stacey Jo (new)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) | 214 comments Mod
Yay! We like to have new people join us. Hope you can make it. I keep the "The next meeting is scheduled for..." Thread updated fairly well so always check there to see when the next meeting will be and what book we are talking about. If you have any suggestions on books to read at future meetings please bring a list of titles. We try to be fair and take turns picking books from the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror (that has a sci-fi/fantasy slant) genres. Like Daniel said, we can be anywhere in the store or Bistro so just ask at the counter and they will point us out. Mark is a manager there and oversees the group so he's a good person to ask for if you need help locating us.

message 38: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Rowe | 6 comments Hi there. I'm Joseph-Beth bookseller and sf/fantasy writer Christopher Rowe. As some of you know, I'll be taking over the (minimal) store-side stuff with this most excellent group. I understand that the next meeting is November 17th, when we'll be discussing Piers Anthony's ON A PALE HORSE, and then in December, on the 15th, we'll be taking a look at the first book in Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy, ANNIHILATION. Looking forward to meeting you all!

message 39: by Stacey Jo (new)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) | 214 comments Mod
Hi! Glad you have you! I've been a member of the group for several years now. I've been here with Patricia, then Andrew, then Mark. I try to keep this group here on GR updated as much as possible. We occasionally find new members to meet with us through here, although it's usually pretty quiet around here otherwise.

message 40: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyduncan) I'm Rusty, a friend of Twila, who invited me to your group.

I'm very excited to see what others are reading, as well as the group's current and previous book selections. I love horror, sci-fi and fantasy. Growing up in Lexington, I cut my teeth on Stephen King, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Frank Herbert and James Blish's novelizations of the original Star Trek series. I have lived just north of Indianapolis since 1992.

I have a sweet (but rotten) tooth for zombie novels and movies. I am almost exclusively an ebook reader and audiobook listener. I've also delved into several horror podcasts recently, including Horror Hill and The Other Stories.

I probably won't make it to many book discussions in person, but thanks for letting my play along from home!

message 41: by Twila (new)

Twila (tbrooksesquire) | 17 comments Welcome Rusty we are lots of fun. My husband enjoys all things Zombie. My favorite book we have read is The Name of the Wind.

message 42: by Stacey Jo (new)

Stacey Jo (st1ac2ey3) | 214 comments Mod
Hi Rusty. We have a lot in common. LOL I've spent most my life here. I lived in Avon, Indiana. Stephen King was my first love and I went to listen to him when he came to the Singletary Center on his Insomnia tour. I love zombie movies and listen to true crime and horror podcasts. Because of my jobs and taking care of our horses I don't have time to sit and read so I'm exclusively ebooks (about 3,000) with close to 200 audiobooks. Welcome to the group,

message 43: by Jordan (new)

Jordan Holt | 1 comments Hello Everyone! I'm Jordan, I found your group via Stacey's post on Nextdoor. I have been reading quite a bit of Sci-Fi/Fantasy over the past 7 years and write quite a bit of it myself when I am not busy with other life stuff. :)

I'm looking forward to (virtually) meeting everyone soon!

message 44: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 85 comments Nice to say hi Jordan. We have not had a regular schedule because of all the quarantine difficulties. Hopefully we will set something up again soon. Keep checking back.

Daniel
