Lets discuss strictly!

I know in America it is called dancing with the stars you can also discuss that as well.

Chris (calmgrove) Interesting line-up of celebrities in Strictly Come Dancing this year, a good half of whom I have heard of (for a change). My only concern is that the producers have gone for the familiar profile of stars: the 'cuddly' politician/political commentator whom older viewers may well go for, regardless of their skill; the younger more athletic popular figure who will appeal to the youth vote; the boxer whose dancing in the ring may not necessarily translate to the ballroom floor; the soap star; the One Show presenter; the ITV morning/daytime presenter; the usual wild cards; and so on. Individuals become types; beautiful dancing may well go out the window.

Still, we shall be watching it, and the It Takes Two dailies, even if, like a soap or a romcom, the outcome has mostly already been decided...

im kinda rooting for lulu and harry judd. :) i dont think that the politician will do well for some reason. i will try to watch it takes two, and i will the whole series but we do have to wait 3 weeks for the live shows to start.

Not long until the series starts up officially. I can't wait. :)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Well it has started; I was surprised by Anita Dobson, she did much better than I anticipated, but the rest - oh dear! Looking forward to see Jason Donovan tonight, I expect he will be good.

I'm glad she's gone. :)

Alright, who's going next? Audley? I thought he manages best in ballroom, which he's doing this weekend. Lulu's a bit hit and miss, but seems to be upping her game now. I was surprised at Russell's musicality and ability to work hard, but his samba was a bit of a disarster, wasn't it.

Did you see the interview with Jennifer Grey on It Takes Two? I gather she won Dancing with the Stars last year. It'll be interesting to see how the mix of two women and two men might affect comments/scores.

I didnt

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I don't know who will go out this week, but if Aliona doesn't sort out her silly choreography, she will lose Harry the chance to win, just as she did with matt baker last year - she behaves like a willful child!

Controversial! But I see what you mean after the criticism of not enough contact (I mean being in hold) in their tango.

message 16: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I might sound a bit harsh, but I felt frustrated by her refusing to listen to the judges last year and this year, she appears to be doing exactly the same thing.

message 17: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Wow, in the US... we can't figure out why Nacy Grace is still there... but there is still "Hope" (Sigh) ... (HOOOope... )

sorry... (Cough) got carried away.

message 18: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I've watch a few of the DWTS episodes and Nancy Grace always seems to be arguing with her partner! I really watch it for Maksim Chmerkovskiy, I love watching him dance, he's spectacular!

message 19: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) and Max has Hope... how upliting!

My favourite professional on the British show has to be Vincent Simone (my favourite male pro) my favourite female pro has to be Erin Boag.

message 21: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments I don't have a favourite on the UK show, it used to be Matthew Cuttler, but since he left I think they are more or less at the same level and equally good.

message 22: by Bridgette (new)

i think vincent just had the cute factor about him. Brendan gets on my nerves when he argues back at the judges.

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Which is your favouite dance? I like the jive, but I like it Len's way; lots of content and full of bounce. makes me tired thinking about it. I like the charlston and samba too, but again they have to be full of energy.

Passo Doblet... (I like Max and the Passo, one of his better dances, I think.)

Argentine Tango, then the samba. Both difficult (what dances aren't?) but in different ways. Not that I could dance either, or indeed any, of them even years ago.

message 26: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) I can dance a mean Passo, and a ver fluid Venitian Waltz... then, of course, I usually injure myself.

(It hurts when you wake up all in the middle of a lift and hit the floor nose first. Dancing in your dreams can be dangerous... but it is the only way I'm light on my feat anywhere... excepting of course in free fall, but... the sudden stop at the end of long jumps is rather... uncomfortable too.)

message 27: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Okay, watching Dancing with the stars (US) and..WoW, what happened. Hope/Max and Kardasian/Burke came out on fire. How'd that happened?

message 28: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) There is Justice in the world. Nancy Grace finally becomes a spectator.

do you think that harry judd was a worthy winner?

message 30: by Chris (new)

Chris (calmgrove) If it was only about energy and enthusiasm, Jason Donovan would have won. If it was only about sheer talent Chelsee Healey would have won. If it was only about consistent improvement Harry Judd would have won. As it was, as Bruce and many others said on the show, everyone was a winner.

message 31: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Jason was my favourite, but I think the right dancer won. Very polished!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments So Stictly starts again tonight, who are you routing for?

I've got a bit of a soft spot for Nicky Byrne, I always thought he was the "prettiest" of the Westlife boys.

Chris (calmgrove) Chris wrote: "So Stictly starts again tonight, who are you routing for?"

Going to wait till tonight and see how they shape up!

i think i will route for dani harmer as she is similar age to me and possibly few others depending how good they are

message 35: by Chris (new)

Chris (calmgrove) The Strictly final tomorrow!

I think this is the first final with finalists that I thought from relatively early on deserved to be there. Denise is a consistent performer, but Kimberley has kept on improving, as has Dani; Lewis also upped his game after realising that performance counts as much as technique. It will be interesting! I think it's too close to call, especially with three dances to pull off. Still, the public at large will have the final say, so anything can happen!

message 36: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Did you think that Louis is a worthy winner?
We voted for him several times in our house, just because we liked him the most and the judges were harshest on him throughout the competition. However Kimberly and Denise could also have walked off with it and were equally talented.I felt sorry for Danni who let her nerves take over.

message 37: by Chris (last edited Dec 26, 2012 09:24AM) (new)

Chris (calmgrove) I thought Louis was a true sportsman, saving his best (technically and performance-wise) till the closing rounds. However, I still think Denise was consistently good in all departments, and given that three out of the four finalists were female, would have liked to have seen her or Kimberley finish top. Women have won only four of the ten finals:
2004 Natasha Kaplinsky
2004 Jill Halfpenny
2005 Darren Gough
2006 Mark Ramprakash
2007 Alesha Dixon
2008 Tom Chambers
2009 Chris Hollins
2010 Kara Tointon
2011 Harry Judd
2012 Louis Smith

Following this pattern, I would expect a woman to win in 2013...
