I think our old friends will pop up again, it's set only 5 years after Fire Study so unless something tragic has happened then they're still alive and kicking ;) I know Jane would love to have a whole book or series just full of Ari and Janco shenanigans! Suzann and I would love to have a YA or IR Fisk series, too!
I am kind of hoping Leif will be around dating Opal's remaining sister ^_^ he reminds me of my brother a bit, and I always hope he'll settle down with a nice girl someday!

For some odd reason, I feel that Cahil will be the romantic interest for Opal. I also think that Leif would be in the next book as well.
Re: Cahil + Opal, Ugh, I would hate that! Well, I think I would hate that. I guess I can see why you say it, from a writerly standpoint--he's got a lot of conflict brewing!
I'd really like to see more of Nutty & the Zaltanas. Alethea - I agree. I wouldn't prefer to see Cahil & Opal together. I'm hope the introduction of Kade will be on the same level as Valek. But I don't think Opal is anything like Yelena, so Kade will most likely not be like Valek. Anywho, it will be very interesting to see how Maria starts this new romance. I'm sooo looking forward to this one!
I am also excited to get to know Opal and find out more of her story. I think it would be great to see some of the characters from the previous books, but I am also looking forward to new characters and relationships.
I'm excited about seeing Opal! I really liked her (especially on re-reading) and I want to see Leif. Opal/Cahil...less exciting prospect. I respected him a little better in Fire Study, but quite frankly I can't get the image of a spoiled brat breaking a toy because he can't have it out of my head whenever I see his name. Maybe he will have redeemed himself more in the 5 years since Fire Study's events.I want to see the Commander. I liked him (her...) and I LIKE Ixia. I was sad there wasn'tmore Ixia in Magic or Fire Study. And I think its high time Ari or Janco or even Maren got love interests!
I think in this series Opal might just be in Ixia aiding the Commander somehow. Remember how the Commander was fascinated by her sculptures? I feel she'll be in Ixia more than Sitia. Don't know why. lol Its a feeling.
Liz I surely hope so! I was in Ixia-withdrawal. I kept hoping Yelena would run there to hide (even though I knew it wouldn't happen ::Sigh:: ). I can see her talent being useful to the Commander, maybe as a back up liason with Yelena as well?
Liz - that's a really good point. I think you may be on to something with Opal helping the Commander. Very interesting.
Opal + Cahil: yes, yes, it is from a writerly standpoint. I wouldn't prefer to see them together either, but I feel there's a lot of unsolved conflicts brewing about. Personally, I think he's a wonderful character. But I would also like to see Opal with someone we haven't met yet.
I'm hoping to see more of Ari and Janco. In fact, she should just write a whole other book for those two. It's like Fred and George Weasly.

I definitely think that Ari and Janco will have to be back! The books wouldn't be nearly as fun without them. And while I would love to see some of the old characters return (I'd also love to see more of Nutty!), I kinda hope that Opal's romantic interest is someone completely new.
(Am I alone, or does it bug anyone else when an author puts a character from an old book into the new story when there is no reason for him/her to be there other than just to say - "hey! Look it's Yelena." If he/she has a purpose for being there, that's cool.)
Re: "author puts a character from an old book into the new story when there is no reason for him/her to be there..."
It bothers me too. Having the character show up doesn't establish anything unless it's needed for plot reasons. It's like the Scarecrow's appearance in The Dark Knight. Besides that, the movie was awesome.

Jane: I cried, literally, when I saw Cilian Murphy's five second cameo. I was like 'YES! redeem this movie for me!' (cause I was upset over what happens to Aaron Eckhart) and then he's so cruelly taken away for no reason...I'm sort of used to it, since I read a lot of series romance (like Lisa Keyplas or Sabrina Jeffries) or paranormal romance series (Lynsay Sands, Katie MacAlister) so they will often have recurring characters from earlier books who pop up to 'give advice' to the new hero/heroine or help out.
In Yelena/Valek/etc case it would make sense since Opal is a friend of Yelena's and (i'm assuming) Yelena will have taken more responsibilities over the years.
Jane- They had to wrap up what happened to the Scarecrow at the end of the first one. Plus at the end of the first one all of the criminals got away. I don't think that is was pointless to have him show up.
Alfonso I think that the fact he was in it for all of 10 minutes (maybe)was the pointless part. He showed up just to get caught basically and one of his men had an important-ish role later on in the movie, but it seemed like they were cramming him in last minute. They could have saved capturing him for later on in the movie, maybe after the scene with his henchman and the Joker, when it made more sense for him to be out 'helping' Batman with his own brand of justice.
I haven't seen Dark Knight (I know - best movie of the summer, but I don't go to movies that often and I knew I'd be sad about Ledger's death, etc) so I can't comment on the Scarecrow - but I'm guessing that's sort of what I meant. Examples of what I mean off the top of my head are things like the last episode ever of Seinfeld where everyone made an appearance, and some of the appearances in HP7. Why was Krum at the wedding? And Cho just shows up at the end for one brief scene. Maybe for a little bit of humor, but I don't think some of these cameos were necessary.
I'd be totally cool if Yelena showed up and gave advice if needed cause she's do that for Opal. Maybe a possible situation would be if Nutty is there for like 2 seconds in a marketplace scene where she is selling dresses or something.
::nods:: MVS laid the ground work for it to make sense for a number of the supporting cast to show up and for Yelena too (and by default Valek heh). If Opal went to Ixia then I bet Yelena would ask Ari and Janco to watch out for her. Or if Leif is still dating her other sister, that makes sense for him to show up (and if they're married, even more sense!). I'm confident that MVS wouldn't have her characters just be there for the sake of being there (I know there's a term for just inserting as many recognizable characters into a story as possible, but for the life of me I can't remember it).
I think They are going to introduce an new Chara for Opal.No Jeanne you are not alone, I think they could defiantly find something more for them to do than to stand there and state the obvious, have them be the ones that get ran over if that's all there going to be there for. Then at least you could say OHH.. I hate that I really liked them in that other book.
I'm crossing my fingers for some crossover between her new series and I hope to see some MVS characters. I still have to catch up on the Study books, but I will work on it!
I have a hard time with seeing old major characters like Yelena and Valek come up again because, first of all I feel like I know them very well and usually the new characters only know the old characters slightly or not at all. I just feel that it makes it harder to see through the new charachter's point of view. I usually have certain expectations of the old characters that the new ones might not have. So for me, I would much rather see the old character's influences-like how they affected Sitia-than actually see the characters. If we are going to have cameos, I would like to see some of the side characters like Nutty, Ari, and Janco mostly because I don't know them that well and would like to learn more about them.
As for the new characters-Yaay! Can't wait to read about them!
I believe that we will see Yelena, and her family along with the master magicians a little in this book. I would also love to hear more about moon man (I just love him LOL. I think Opel will be a very strong character and my just reach right up there with Valek and Yelena (fingers crossed (: )
it would be nice if it turns out yelena and valek are married with children or else she's expecting oneiv'e got this weird feeling that it would make a good story line if ari and janco end up falling out because they both like maren and it turns out she only likes one of them
i dnt knw it would just be an interesting story even if it wasn't a full book
or am i just being fanciful ?????
Oh I think that would break my heart if that happened. I love Janco and Ari, I don't think it would be right to have one without the other :(
oh of course it all goes rite in the end ....soz but my comp was completely messed up n i only jus got it fixed last nite

There are several things I'm curious about -
Will we see our old friends from the Study Series? I'd love to see a cameo of Yelena, Valek, Janco, & Ari.
What kind of magic will Opal have? Probably not another soul finder, but something equally cool. But what? Does anyone have any ideas?
Will Opal be the same type of protag as Yelena? Yelena was fierce, but I didn't get that vibe from Opal in Fire Study. I felt like she was more creative. Do you think she'll toughen up magic training?
