It's erotic romance, but the Wasteland series comes to mind. I really, really liked the world in these books, a wasteland where females are very rare after the apocalypse, and forced by the society in one of three castes. The Breeders, who well, breed. The whores, who satisfy the men, and the Priestesses, who take care of the two others, and the religion. All three are basically slaves. And then there are the Wanderers, a sort of nomads who don't follow by these rules, and both the men and women are fierce warriors.
.It's modern erotic romance, so there's quite a bit of menage going on (both occasional as permanent), so I imagine that's not everybody their cup of tea.
Also, as far as writing style and stories go, I really only liked the first, which was really good. The others were ok, but I think they could have done more with the world.
Edit: here's the link to the series, with more info on the world: http://www.goodreads.com/series/49490...
Hmmmm...... I'm not really into reading menage, but the world sounds really, really interesting, so I think I'll check it out. Thanks for the rec!
Yeah the world is great, but I wish it had been a bit more romance than erotic romance. The first one I def. recommend though. (They are all novella's too, so that's always a short pagetime to really go into depth)
Seems like there's a couple sorta-dystopian romances that are more paranormal than sf. Jordan Summers' series from Tor that begins with Red is arguably one; Karina Cooper's series that starts out with Before the Witches: An Original Novella is arguable one as well. Galaxy Express just did an article about series that mix paranormal and sf elements where more were mentioned.I'm actually reading a self pubbed apocalypse style book right now that's been interesting -- Beyond Eternity
