Michelle Gilmore I'm not too familiar with ereaders/ ebook formats other than the nook and the kindle. But this is the thread where we can post all of our other ebook formats for loaning/ borrowing. Thanks!

Michelle Gilmore If anyone can tell me how,I'd be happy lend my copy of Primary Inversion (Saga of the Skolian Empire, #1) by Catherine Asaro . I have it on my nook, but I didn't get it from the B&N website, so its a different of file.

Yes. That's where I got this one from. I'm glad to hear you loved it. I've been putting off reading it for a while now because some of the reviews I've read said it was "too technical", but I'll move it up in my tbr.

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments As far as I know I can't loan books from or to my Sony. I loved Primary Inversion too, btw. Have a print copy.

I wish! I keep trying to think of a way that I can get paid for reading what I want, when I want, LOL!

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments LOL! I need another one, too.

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments Is that legal, though?

I know I can email most any ebooks I bought but unless the company has an established loan policy it's illegal.

I'm willing to "permanently lend" my SF Romance AMBASADORA. (If I'm allowed to do that here? Jan? Michele?) If not, I'll still be happy to lend my Kindle version of it to anyone who's interested.

Here's the free code from Smashwords for any format: MT42N

And here's the link:

Best,
Heidi

Jan (janoda) | 226 comments I'm not sure of the legalities of sending over files via email. If Sony doesn't have it's own lending system yet, I guess we'll have to wait.

Heidi, I think your offer fits more under the promotions folder, but since you're also lending the Kindle version, it's allright.

It's very sweet of you to offer btw!

Thanks for the response, Jan. I'll put it to the promotions file.

And, I'll post the Kindle lend under the Kindle thread.

Cheers,
Heidi

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments I just did some research and the most I could find on the Sony site was that they allow borrowing only from libraries. The only info I saw about individuals loaning books from their Sony is that it's not allowed yet.

Kindle is the only one I know to have this feature and they track the number of loans, but I don't know anything about Nooks or Kobos, etc.

So, it sounds like you can only legally borrow a public domain ebook, library book, or share via Kindle's tracking program to totally avoid prosecution.

But entering contests is a fun way to get free books. I've won three this month. One from Goodreads and two from author contests.

message 12: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Gilmore Thanks for the info AnnaM. Congrats on winning 3 books this month!

message 13: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Nook will let you borrow too. I do have a couple of books on my "nook" shelf for anyone to borrow.

AnnaM (annamc) | 1111 comments Michelle, you're welcome and thanks! I'm always surprised if I win something even though I enter a lot of contests. (The books I won aren't all SFR.)

Marcia (marcygold) For anyone that reads on an iPad: Which is your favorite ebook app for your iPad? Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

message 16: by Pauline (new)

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments I prefer the Kindle app because most of my purchases are from Amazon. But I also read a lot in iBooks, because its easy to get books into that app.

I also like Bluefire Reader. It is, I believe, the only app that will read Adobe Digital Editions. I understand it has some limitations, though. You can actually get too many books in this app, though I haven't done it myself.

But I have most of the reading apps, because sometimes I can find freebies that are only available in one place. None of them are what I'd call perfect. Perfect for me would be the ability to sort the books into collections by subject, not just by title or author.

Pauline (paulinebairdjones) | 345 comments Most welcome! Not hard to have them all, though it can be hard to keep track of books across so many apps. LOL!
