Some say and I am one that CMcC is the heir to Faulkner. Who agrees and why am I so right about this?

Dougal Bain (taoistgaucho) | 2 comments I've heard that comparison made a lot between McCarthy and Faulkner, and I am a big fan of both, but I just can't see it! I see more in common with Hemingway and McCarthy than Faulkner?
What are the similarities supposed to be?

R. Fox (foxman2099) | 2 comments I'm a late entrant to this discussion, but sometimes "better late than never." I can see it in subject matter---the every day (or mundane) is depicted in an almost epic way. Juveniles slipping over the border is depicted as (rightfully, I'd add) something as grand as Homer's "The Odyssey," or Tolkien's "LOTR." Ok that's hyperbole, but you get what I'm saying! In that sense I can see him as a literary heir to Faulkner (as well as an heir to the terse prose of Hemingway).

R. Fox (foxman2099) | 2 comments But I also see similarities in subject matter with plenty of other writers, from Flannery O'Connor to Leslie Marmon Silko (but key and important divergences as well).

Dave (crzydjm) | 1 comments I tried reading "As I Lay Dying" but couldn't get into it at all. I've not had any issues with McCarthy, save "Orchard Keeper". Everything else from McCarthy has blown me away but Orchard Keeper just seemed to meander too much and just bored me.
