“The best time to cry is at night, when the lights are out and someone is being beaten up and screaming for help.” This quote opens Walter Dean Myers's intense text, Monster, a work of realistic fiction that takes place in New York City during the 1990s. Using journal entries and scripts, the novel tells the story of Steve Harmon, a sixteen year-old accused of being an accessory in the robbery of a convenience store and the murder of its owner. Feeling alienated from society, Steve is forced to reflect upon his own character to determine whether he is in fact the monster that much of society believes him to be. Talented and intelligent, the once aspiring film-maker is now a resident of the Manhattan Detention Center. Dealing with the pressure of disappointing his parents and failing as a role model to his brother Jerry, Steve uses writing to cope with the fear during the murder trial, as he faces the reality of a life behind bars.

Overall, I thought Monster to be an amazing journey. Steve faces many of the same problems that many teens do today. Not only does Steve endure pressure from neighborhood delinquents, but he also struggles with deciding what kind of man he wants to be. Is having strong moral character more important than maintaining his image and proving to people that he has, as the delinquent Bobo phrases it, "heart." Therefore, I would recommend this book my students, for it might encourage them to think twice before making a choice they know to be wrong. Because I think he understands teens so well, I would recommend to Myers that he writes more novels with female protagonists. Girls face many of the same issues as boys, yet novels often portray them as superficial or dramatic. I believe that he his themes about standing up for yourself and resisting peer pressure would also resonate with them and serve as an inspiration for positive decision making. Bottom line, whether his books are geared for boys or girls, teens or adults, Walter Dean Myers's engaging writing style, inspiring themes, and realistic conflicts continue to cause his readers to deeply reflect about the choices they make in deciding what kind of person they ultimately want to be.

Dylan T (dylant) | 4 comments The last book I read was a book called Smiles to Go by Jerry Spinelli. It was a good book because it explains how a teenager interpreted things going on in the year of eighth grade. The teenager in then book is named Will, and he is the protagonist. The antagonist in the book is named BT. He is not really Will's enemy but he can be cocky. I think I can connect to the book because is is explaining his friendships, his crush, and his thoughts about the year. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in my class because it really makes you interested when Will is expressing his thoughts in the book.

Aren Marfey | 34 comments The last book i have read over the summer is "Dope Sick" by Walter Dean Myers. I liked this book because it was a different kind of book compared to the books i usually read. I mostly read fantasy and thing around that area but this book was different it was like a realistic fiction. I can make a connection to this book very well just like Lil J i have a lot of things in my life that i regret doing. I would recommend this book to a lot of people so that they can realize the bad things they have done in there life and think twice about more things in the future.

Zizzo | 4 comments The most recent book I read was "The Absolutely True Diary Of A Part Time Indian." The National Book Award winning story written by Sherman Alexie. This book is told from the point of view of it's protagonist, Arnold Spirit. A very humorous protagonist. He lives on an Indian Reservation and the story follows his life and the leap of faith that he takes to give the story it's gripping opening. The book is heartwarming, heartbreaking, and masterfully written by Sherman Alexie. I can very much relate to Arnold when he expresses his feelings on middle school.

The book is also extremely realistic, and very well illustrated. It gives me funny visualizations and ideas of his childhood and family. Most of the illustrations of the book are goofy and humorously drawn by Arnold should I say the illustrator Ellen Forney. The book pulled me in when Arnold moved from his reservation to a rich white kid school called Reardan. It results in many conflicts, kids being racist towards Arnold, Arnold leaving his best friend Rowdy behind, and much more. This book was very intense at times, and it actually got me choked up. I recommend this book to any one above 12 years old.

Sadie Hechkoff (sadiehechkoff) | 29 comments The book I have just finished is called Summer Sisters by Judy Blume. It is about two girls who spend every summer together in the Vinyard. These two girls are the excact opposite. Caitlin is the rich, popular, blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty that has everything Victoria (Vix) wants. As life goes on for these two girls, you follow both of their paths of life for years and figure out how different Vix and Caitlin really are from eachother. This book is realistic fiction. The protagonist is Vix and the antagonist is Caitlin because Caitlin reveals that she has used Vix at one point or another. There are really no external conflicts in this story, but there are internal ones within every character. The story also varies in the location.

I made many personal connections to the text. At one point in the book, Caitlin marrys Vix's ex-boyfriend, Bru. But he wasn't just any ex-beau. He was the most serious and long-term relationship Vix had ever been in before, but it all fell apart when he asked Vix to marry him and Vix turned him down. After Caitlin marrys him, she reveals to Vix that she wasn't sure if she even loves Bru. She explains how she was always jealous of Vix, and she had this need to top Vix. But in reality, Vix had always looked up to Caitlin. Wanted whatever Caitlin had. That hit home, because I know what it's like to be jealous of someone that is actually jealous of you.

I would reccomend this text to the kind of person who can take reality and deal with it, even if it is harsh. This book demonstrates realistic things that could actually happen, and some of them are sad and scary. Though there are parts of this book that make you want to smile, there are parts that make you want to cry.

Luca | 27 comments The last book that I read was Of Mice And Men. There were two protagonist in the book, George and Lenny. George is short but smart and tough, Lenny is huge but dumb and he is a softy. The story takes place in the 1920's. The book is about george taking care of Lenny while they are working at a ranch where they hope to raise enough money to get a house with a farm so they can support themselves. The antagonist was George's stupidity. It was always getting them into trouble. One day it got them into so much trouble it was irreversible.
I really liked this book . It was very sad. I couldn't make a personal connection to the book besides sometimes I feel like I made a huge mistake and don't know how to fix it, just like Lenny. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sad books. The only thing that I would change about this book is that it needs to be more interesting in the beginning of the book.

Cheyenneb | 1 comments The last book I read was Dope Sick by Walter Dean Myers. The book is Jeremy known as Lil J' , will do anything for some money to support his family. One day Lil J' does something horrible and is introuble. The protagonist in this story is Lil J'. The antagonist is Lil J's concience because he doubts himself and has no faith in himself. The setting is in Harlem. The conflict is that Lil J' did something horrible and he knows that he is going to get in big trouble.
I really enjoyed this book , i liked it a lot because I feel it can motivate people to try harder. I had really no connection to the book because I have always been motivated to keep trying. I reccomend this to everyone because it should keep people motivated to try. I have never seen read another interesting author. So I just want to know where does he get his ideas from? In addition, I want to say that I admire Walter Dean Myers.

Jamie G | 31 comments The last book that I read was Speak By Laurie Halse Anderson. It was about a girl named Melinda she didn't like to speak to anyone, she felt like a outcast to the whole school. Also this boy Andy raped her at a summer party because she didn't speak up to him. I think the genre of Speak is realistic fiction, because this could acutally happen to someone in real life. The protagonist is Melinda, and the antagonist is Andy because he created a lot of problems for Melinda. The setting was home and school. Melinda's conflict was that she couldn't speak up to anyone

I disliked it because the ending wasn't that clear to me, and the story didn't go right to the point. It took a long time to get to the action parts. Advice that I would give to the author is to stretch out the ending, and elaborate more on what happened to Melinda in the end because I was a little confused.

Ronnye G | 35 comments The last book that I read was "The Hunger Games." This story is in first person view by Katniss Everdeen. Katniss lives in District 12 wich industializes in mining for the Capital. In the beggining of the story she tells us her usual life and what she does to support he family. Soon that changes, she must fight in the Hunger Games in order to protect her sister,Prim, from reciving a good chance of dieing. Her compainon into this death match is Peeta, who is also from district 12. When they arrive at the capital they meet all the other tributes from the other districts and fight to the death in the Hunger Games.
I deffinetly recomend this book to anyone who is a fan of action and fantasy books. This book describes every fighting seen with great detail, from the horrifing deaths of the other tributes to the pain received by the main character. Even if you are a romance lover, this book does have a small bit of romance with Peeta and Katniss. In the end this book will not leave you bored, instead, you will be left wanting more.( If you read this book and Love it, there are two sequels to this, Catching Fire and Mockingjay

Audie Suydam | 29 comments I have read Dope Sick by Walter Dean Myers. This book is a cautionary tale of what comes when doing drugs, and also blurs the line between fantasy and realistic fiction. Lil J seems to be a person who just wants to get money, and thinks of stupid ways of getting it, like helping out with drug deals. In the beginning of a book, the setting is a shady part of New York City, and then later in the book to an ugly apartment owned by the other protaganist Kelly. In this book the antagonist seems to be the police, because they are trying to stop the protagonist from doing what he must do. The primary conflict in this story is that Lil J must think of something to get out of this mess, which he later finds himself. Lil J and his friend Rico, try to get money by helping a drug dealer with a deal, but the person they were selling the drugs to was an undercover cop, who is then shot by Rico.
I would recommend this book to people that find cautionary stories enjoyable, because it is definitley a fascinating story. I enjoyed this book because of the fantasy it entails, and I enjoy fantasy.

Nicole Amaral | 26 comments The last book i read was "City of Glass" by, Cassandra Clare. It's about this girl named Clary and she just found out that she is a shadowhunter. Her mother has been kidnapped. The protagonist is Jace and Clary because they are the people that are always in the story. The antagonist is Valentine, because he is the most evil guy. The setting is "The Silent City", also known as, "The Glass City".

I LOVED THE BOOK!!! It sort-of pulls you in. Its really good. She is a really good author. I did not make a personal connection to the text because this would never happen to me. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves fantasy and loves evil and good fighting and twists. I have no question or advice because everything is pretty self-explanitoriy. I have never read from this author before this was the first time. Well it fantasy, but i have never heard or shadow hunters, but there are lots of warlocks vampires, werewolves.

Gameassassin1020 (goodreadscomgameasassin1020) | 9 comments The most recent book I read was "Sunrise Over Fallujah".
It's about a guy named Birdy (nick name). He joined the war in Iraq so he could follow in his uncle's footsteps. He get's there hoping to be a hero but finds out the only thing he should worry about is surviving.

Overall I liked the book. It kept my interest by including the right amount of action and seriousness. It felt less like reading paper and more like a movie. If I were to rate it I would give it a 5 out of 5. I recommend this to anyone who loves war story's or loves to read about war. It's also a great book made by a great author who you should read more of his books..... ALL OF THEM!!

Amazingamanda | 9 comments The last book I read was This Boys Life A Memoir by Tobias Wolff. The book is about the authors childhood growing up with a stepfather that hates him. Tobias moves to Salt Lake City from Florida with his mom escaping her abusive boyfriend, Roy. Roy had found them again, so Tobias and his mother moved to Seattle, where his mom meets Dwight. Dwight has three kids, Skipper, Norma, and Pearl. Dwight and Tobias' mom get married. Dwight does NOT like Tobias at all . Tobias gets treated in a horrible way. In the book, you read what happens to Tobias and Dwight's relationship.

I though this book was good. I liked how when I read it I was always surprised when Dwight would do things to Tobias. I liked the relationship of Tobias and his mom because they were so close after everything that had happened in their life. I would recommend this book to someone that likes a book that their is a conflict that impacts the whole story. I would definitely recommend this book!

Anthony Z | 16 comments The last book I have read is "Twisted" by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book is about a seventeen year-old teenager called Tyler. Tyler has a thirteen year-old sister called Hannah. Tyler has many things going on in his life. For example, he is on probation, goes to community service, and goes to court for what he had done. Before this disaster happened Tyler was a nobody. Tyler was doing great at school until what he did before summer break. When school was almost over he drew a graffiti on the school property. This book has lot's of drama in it.

I believe this book is really good. I recommend this book to whoever likes drama, or action. What I like about this book is that Tyler deals with his own problems. He doesn't go up to his friend or family and ask for help. He is a responsible seventeen year-old. Laurie Halse Anderson are one of my favorite authors. Right now I'm reading the book called "Speak" by the same author of "Twisted." I have no questions or advices to the author.

Guillar K. | 21 comments The last book i read was Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes. I really like this book because it was realistic and it was very interesting. This connects to me because I really like to write poetry in my free time. I reccomend this book to all poetry lovers because it involves different types of poetry and the back story behind it. I wouldnt give the author any advice because she included everything that needed to be there and it involved a lot of truth.

This book combares to others in the same genre because it resembles the same amount of realisticness and it always keeps draggind you back into the book. The characters developed a lot during the book because he would go from hating poetry to absoloutely loving it at the end. I always wondered what happened if they went to the next year and continued poetry.

Sebastianlikespie13 | 18 comments The last book that I read was called The Hunger Games. This book is about a girl named Katniss who lives in district 12 in a country that used to be America. Kaatniss attended to some sort of a cerimony that all the districts have (there are only 12) to choose, at random, the two people who will compete in the Hunger Games. Katniss got choosen and so did a future friend of hers named peeta. "What is the Hunger Games?" The Hunger Games is basically an arena in which you bring two people from each district (one boy one girl) and have each district kill each other and the last one standing wins. Throughout the story Katniss and Peeta prepare themselves for the Hunger Games and soon fight for survival. Who will win? Who will die? I guess you have to read the book yourself to find out.
I really enjoy this book because it has a little bit of everything from fighting to love. I also enjoy this book because it is really suspenseful thrroughout the staory and the tension keeps growing the more you read. I wouuld recommend this book to people who enjoy tense and action packed along with suspenseful books because this book has all of the above and more.

I read The Last Song by Nicholas Spark which is a realistic fiction novel. It's about girl named Ronnie, the protagonist, who lives in New York City and whose parents recently got divorced. Ever since this happened, she has turned herself into a girl that shys away from the world. She gets bad grades, shop lifts, etc. But when Ronnie is forced by her mother to stay at North Carolina for the summer with her father who left them, Ronnie meets Will, a guy that she falls in love with and takes her life to a brighter place. The antagonist, Marcus, rarely comes up in the book, but is very important on how Ronnie used to think of herself. She also realizes the change in herself when she found out that her father is diagnosed with stomach cancer. This makes her realize that she has very limited time to spend with him, whom she has stopped talking to ever since he left. Ronnie goes on an adventure-filled summer as she falls in love with Will and spends as much time as possible with her dying father. The theme was that love is really all you need.
I LOVED this book because it put me to tears in some parts and it taught me a valuable lesson on how to love, as well as give and take. I also enjoyed it because it was, indeed, a summer romance novel! The personal connection I can make to this book is Ronnie's parents being divorced. My parents had a divorce when I was really young and it was a tough experience for not only me, but my family as well. I can understand how much a divorce can impact you, since many of us kids or teenagers look up to our parents as role models. I would recommend this book to those who love summer romance novels and those who like a good sob story.

Kameron Dixey | 24 comments The most rescent book i read was call Night and Day by Robert B. Parker. This book was amazing. One of the best books Robert Parker has ever written. IT about Chief Jesse stone of Paradise city trying to capture Night Hawk. The entire book, Jesse knows its Seth Ralston who's Night Hawk. But he have to figure out a way to stop him and, catch him.
I love this book so much. Anything from Robert B. Parker is amazing. He wrote it so well i felt like i was Jesse Stone. I recommend this book to everyone. He wrote it so perfectly, i don't have any advice for him. All i know is that I'm going to continue to read all of his series.

Lydia The last book that i read was Wanted by Sara Shepard. I really enjoyed this book because it had so much mystery and was so intense. It was also so thrilling, like there was a page turner and nobody in that town has limits. Well i guess i would make this recommendation out to though who love a real page turner because what you think might happen it actually might not cause you never ever know. Well if i met the author i would tell her that she was doing it a great job because i personally hate mystery and intense things but this book was just like that but once i read the book i couldn't put it down.
Well i haven't read any other books by the same author because until the day that i actually read the book i thought that it was one of those scary stories and there was a reason why i avoided it until that day. I would call the genre of this book fiction and a lot of drama. I don't think that i have ever read a book like this in my life. The reason why is because the things that these girls do in the book are unbelievable and there actions are so crazy. The setting in this book takes place in Rosewood, Pennsylvania and it's time period is set to the modern time (2008 - 2011). The kind of conflict in this book is definitely physiological and physical because "A" can literally pull all the strings in what happens and never get caught. Honestly read this book again(my creative question)? No, i wouldn't read this book again because i feel like if i did it would even be scarier and that the story would get more intense and messed up.

Max B | 31 comments The last book I read was Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. The book starts out at Mitch's college graduation. Mitch is a sociology major who wants to become a pianist. At his graduation, he gives his favorite teacher, Morrie Schwartz, a briefcase engraved with his name. Morrie embraces Mitch and starts to cry. He says he will miss Mitch and they promise to keep n touch. Then the book fast-fowards twenty years. Mitch is a sports writer in Detroit. One night, after a long day at the office, Mitch comes home ad turns on the television. To his surprise, he sees Morrie on 60 Minutes. Morrie has ALS, or Lou Gherigs disease he probably won't make it. But, Morrie has a positive spin on death. Being the philosopher he is, Morrie tells the folks at home all about his disease and enlightens them with his amazing philosophies and then, Mitch decides to go visit him. Mitch visits him for around 10 weeks, all on tuesdays. After they reconnect, Morrie dies. Mitch is crushed but he has a whole new look on life.
At first, I didn't think I was going to like this book at first; too depressing. But after finishing it, it was kind of bittersweet. There were two main conflicts in the book. One was Morrie's health. The other was Mitch's conscious. He kept on second guessing the career choices he had made. I would recommend this book to anyone who wouldn't think to read this book in the first place. I only read this because I had to read it because of the summer reading list. It's an amazing book.

Rebecca (beckyboo13) | 9 comments For my summer reading, one of the books I read was Dope Sick by Walter Dean Myers. I chose to write about the book Dope Sick because of Walter Dean Myers craftsmanship. I thought it was much different then the other books I read because Walter Dean Myers uses magical realism, for a great portion of the book.
This book was an anti-drug abuse book, written from the perspective of a sixteen year old boy named Jeremy (lil J). Lil J had a kid at the age of 15, his mother is an alcoholic, his baby mama's mama hates him and he does drugs. Lil J comes across multiple life threatening obstacles during the course of the book. He is a suspect in a cop shooting, he takes MANY unprescribed drugs that hurt his body, he works for drug dealers and has friends that are bad influences. It is clear right away that the reader realizes that lil J will probably amount to nothing, has a serious drug addiction and is a very troubled kid that really needs to sort out his life. Lil J is confused throughout the whole book on what his next step in life should be, but regardless of what decisions he makes he seems to always be wrong and eventually he just gives up on himself. He gives up on himself and question his life and the choices he has made. Does he deserve to live? Who would care if he died?

Alice Chen | 33 comments The book that I read was Speak By Laurie Halse Anderson. It was about a girl named Melinda who has depression. She cuts class to hide in the janitor's closet and excludes herself from the rest of the school. Everyone in the school hates her because she busted a summer party. No one knows what happened except for Melinda. She chooses not to talk to anyone and classify herself as an outcast. Everyone in her school hates her including her "best friend." The protagonist is Melinda and the antagonist is Andy Evans (the rapist). The genre of this book is realistic fiction.

This book was a interesting book. The feelings that Melinda had were described well and it put me into tears. The character changed a lot because at first she was afraid to speak up and tell people that she had been sexual assaulted. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what it feels like to be left alone.

Olivia | 31 comments The last book I read was called "Twisted" by Laurie Halse Anderson and I really enjoyed reading this book! "Twisted" is about a high school senior named Tyler Miller. He is a quiet kid who just blends into the background. During the end of his junior year, Tyler wanted to do something that he could be known for, so a "little prank" ended up being a "really big" disaster and Tyler was arrested and had to pay it off by doing community service during that summer. When everyone returns to school in the fall Tyler is known as "that kid who got arrested" and he is invisible to the girl he likes. This girl, Bethany Milbery, just so happens to be the daughter of Tyler's father's boss. While trying to win her attention, Tyler faces his dad at home, a workaholic and (in Tyler's words) "the meanest man alive", who does not praise Tyler or help him, just yell and punish him. Tyler has a tough life which makes it difficult when you are still trying to figure out who you really are. That is how Tyler felt. He spends his senior year, meeting with his probation officer once a month, dealing with bullies and kids who treat him horribly because of the "label on his back." But soon Tyler realizes where he belongs and gets a new role model in his life.
This book was a very great read! Sometimes it had me on the edge of my seat, because of a moment that i thought just had to keep going and other times it left me thinking to myself, "oh, wow, that's strange, hmm..." There were parts of happiness and depression and everything in between. It was a little difficult to relate to, but of course there were times where I would think about how that has happened to me before. For example, there was a time where Tyler was getting little overwhelmed with his classes and work, and I could easily think, "oh yeah, been there, done that."
In The end I concluded that a overall theme of the story had to do with making good choices for yourself. Tyler learned that making good choices for himself went a long way and helped him deal with issues in his life, like his family. Some of his choices that he made had good affects on him, some had bad.
I would recommend this book to people who like to read a good realistic fiction book, and who also enjoy learning a lot about the main character of a book and focusing a lot on their thoughts and actions.

Aidan Farrell | 26 comments The Catcher in the Rye

The Catcher in the Rye is the last book I read. It is the story of a boy named Holden Caulfield who was just kicked out of his fourth boarding school. He goes to NY City and has many adventures. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who wants to read it. It is a "realistic fiction" type of book -- at least I think that is what it is supposed to be. Holden dislikes almost everything. He thinks everything is phony. He is sort of struggling with what he thinks his life will be when he is an adult.
This book was recommended to me by an adult who said he thought it was the best book he ever read. I really expected to like this book but I just did not like it at all. I thought Holden was a whiny guy who said he thought all kinds of things and people were phony. I think he said this because he thought that no one liked him. I didn't like him at all so I guess he was right. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. I thought it was boring and annoying. I haven't read any other books by J.D. Salinger and I don't think I will.

Madison jean philippe | 13 comments The name of the book i read was Maximum ride angel experiment Schools out by James Patterson. The book was basically about how a group of kids that, were experimented on by the government. Then they escape and now are on the run. The reject experiments are called "erasers". These "erasers" do the dirty work and try to capture they kids, which did i mention they have super powers such as flying with wings, breathing under water and reading minds or controlling them,. They will always be on the run and will never have a normal life but Max, the leader, tries to make the best out of it for the sake of the little ones. By the end you will be more appreciative of what you have and you will not want to stop reading!

I like this book because the author makes the text relatable and to others it is "not boring". James Patterson makes the book interesting and keeps you on your toes when you turn every page. i make many personal connections such as knowing the feeling of shame and having to humble yourself and sometimes the finer things in life is not what want but what you need. I would recommend this book to people who like action books and page turners because this book will keep you on your toes on every page and it keeps you interested not just wondering when the book is going to end. I feel the best advice i can give James Patterson is to write more books because people enjoy his writing and his books. The question i have for James Patterson is where he gets his inspiration for his books. I feel he writes all his books the same way witch really hooks me in because i love the way he writes his books. To me this book does not compare to other books because these books are excellent and other authors need to learn to spice up there writing and to keep the reader interested. Basically the main problem was that they were trying to be captured and experimented on but they refuse and are on the run. So my weird question is does James Patterson have dreams and turns it into books?

Cody Long | 15 comments The last book I read is The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan who likes to write books about gods. There are 3 kids that go to a school called camp half blood because they are demigods which means they are half human and half god. The names of the kids are Jason, Piper, and Leo there they learn that they are demigods and begin a quest to free Hera. They encounter a girl named Thalia who is Jasons sister and they did not know until they reconginzed eachother. They also have to get leave eachother to get what they are looking for. There is a wolf who is looking after them and trying to kill them but Thalia and her pack of wolfs attack them and the other wolfs have not messed with them ever since. Thalia goes on to hunt for them while Jason, Piper and Leo go and rescue Hera a god. There is a god they meet by accident because they went into his house after there dragon had a huge problem and collapse at the house which was fenced up and had traps. This god was a power god but never cared because he was greedy for money so anything he touched was turned into gold. If you are interested in magic this is the book for you.

The last book I read over the summer was Money Hungry by Sharon G. Flake. It is about a girl named Raspberry that is hungry for money. Meaning that Raspberry would do anything to make a buck. The antagonist is actually her neighborhood because she is living in the projects, her mom is trying to make to keep a roof over their heads and life is not so great for Raspberry. In the book, Raspberry is always trying to do something for money. Like she and her friends went to clean I think a nursing home, she is selling candy, working a car wash for a tiny bit. The setting was mostly her apartment, school, in her mom's car and her neighborhood. Her hunger for money usually bothered her mom because Raspberry often talked about making money. Raspberry was determined for a better life.

I ENJOYED THIS BOOK! This book gave me a whole different perspective of how the main character lived. It kept me reading and wanting to know what will happen next. I would recommend this book to anyone who wonders how other people live. Meaning, a different point of view of how other characters live. These are my two question to Sharon G. Flake, does Raspberry live in Pecan landings? Does Raspberry's mom and Dr. Mitchell get married?

Today I just finished Nancy Drew: The Bungalow Mystery. This is about a girl named Nancy Drew and she is a young detective that solves amazing cases. The antagonists are Mr. and Dowd, William Frednich and Joe Jackson. The setting is in a lot of places like a lake, her house, a bungalow and a shack, one of the characters houses. Nancy is determined, smart, daring, caring and courageous.

Anyone that loves loves mystery and suspense, the Nancy Drew series is the book to read. MY FAVORITE KIND OF MYSTERY BOOK!! This book brings you suspense, excitement, wondering what happens next and has you wanting to read more. The question I want to ask the author is how you think of these brilliant stories? Were you interested in detective work? The most interesting thing is the story line because it makes you visualize the setting and what is happening at the very moment.

Anthony Z | 16 comments The last book I have read is called "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson. The book is about a main character called Melinda. Melinda goes to high school and starts a new year. But for now this is a horrible year for her. She now doesn't have any friends ever since the police came and crashed a party during summer break. Something had happened at the party. Nobody knows why Melinda called the cops. It's a secret that no one but Melinda should know. Ever since the party, Her grades have been going down. She loves art class, lonely, and shy. Her friends who are known as her ex-friends hate her know. She doesn't talk that much. I love this book because it has a lot of drama going on. The author writes amazing book such as Speak, Twisted, and many more. So far I have only read two books that were made from Laurie Halse Anderson. I have no questions or advice to the author. I recommend that everybody who is reading my post to go to Barnes&Noble and buy this book or go to the library and checkout the book. Laurie Halse Anderson writes a lot of books that includes action. The story takes place in many places such as school, Heather house, and Melinda house. But the last couple of pages in the story is kinda of confusing. I didn't really understand where the characters were at.

Ronnye G | 35 comments This is a review of the newest book that I just read, "The Throne of Fire." The two main characters are Carter and Sadie who are brothers and sisters. This book is based on Egyptian Mythology. This includes Egypt's Ancient gods and monsters. Carter and Sadie are both from Royal Ancient Egyptian line. Meaning they are able to control a god such as Horus, Isis, Thoth etc. In this book they have to fight the God of Chaos, also know as Apophis. Throughout their journey to revive Ra( the god of the Sun and God of Order)they fight countless demons and minor gods.
I liked this book, I mean I didn't love it but I thought it was good in my opinion. The reason being is that, they were not as descriptive with either the people they encountered or, it didn't have that thing that made you want to read more. Since I enjoy fighting scenes, I hoped to see description in the fighting, but I didn't see much of that in this book. They were not very descriptive about a lot of things in this book. So to rate this book I would give it a 4 out of 5

I just read "Nancy Drew And The Hardy Boys Super Sleuths". These book is about Nancy Drew, Joe and Frank Hardy. They join forces to solve mysteries. The antagonists are the crooks, thieves and kidnappers. Since each chapter of the book is a story, the setting is not the same. Different settings at one tome since the three young detectives have to be on the bad guys trail. Obviously the conflict is always finding the bad guy, getting the information about where they are or who they are and catching them.

I would recommend this book to people who like to solve things or like to do sleuthing because this book is all about sleuthing. I like this book because it makes me think about things. It me a "Who is it? What is going to happen?" That is the kind of reaction you should get with every book you read. You'll know it is good. Every book has to have you thinking. The conflicts are interesting because the three characters always are finding ways to get the bad guys. It makes me think what are they going to do or what will the bad guys do to them if they catch them. Carolyn Keene's writing is not too complicated, it is easy to follow, but it also is very descriptive and kind of suspenseful in my opinion.

Lydia So the book that i just finished reading was finished on September 15th, 2011; but i just forgot to post it. The title of my fantasy book is "Wish" by Alexandra Bullen. The protagonist of the book is Olivia Larsen because the book mainly follows her and how she tries to get used to her new school. The antagonist in this book i would have to say is her, well mentally. The setting of this book takes place in San Francisco, California in modern time. The conflict of this story is how Olivia tries to get used to her new school but the fact that she has to get used to it without her twin sister Violet. When Violet passes away Olivia gets a chance to bring her back and she isn't hesitating to make that wish.

I really liked this book because it really shows the love that one sister has for another and also how Olivia finally found herself and really got out of her shell. I guess one personal connection that i can make is if my sister passed away and i had a chance to bring her back i would do that as well, just like what Olivia did. I guess i would recommend this book to anybody who loves teen drama or having to start fresh in a new place.

Lydia Another book that i just finished on September 27th,2011 but forgot to post was "Royally Crushed" by Niki Burnham. The genre of this book is realistic fiction. The protagonist of this book is Valerie because the book mainly follows her life and all the drama that happens to her. The antagonist is mainly her self esteem and her mental state. The setting of this book happens in Vienna West, Virginia and also Schwerinborg. The main conflict of this book is how Valerie doesn't want her friends or anybody else to find out the fact that her mom "came out of the closet" and divorced her dad because of that and also the fact that her mom has already found herself a girlfriend and an apartment with her new girlfriend. Valerie has the perfect life with her awesome friends who have her back no matter what, her dad who has a killer job working for the president, and also for a mom who has always been there for her in her time of need. But things begin to change when Valerie's mom announces that she no loner wishes to be married to her Valerie's dad anymore and decides to move in with her new girlfriend, Gabriella. Now with what has happened to Valerie she just can't bring herself to tell her friends what the cause of the divorce was. So she decides to go to away with her dad who has a job offer working with the royal family in foreign country to get away form her mom and the embarrassment.

I like this book because i think that it really shows how to make the best of things even when things go terribly wrong or just not the way things expect it to be. I don't think that i could make any personal connections to what has happened to Valerie because this has never happened to me. But if i were in Valerie's shoes i would also want to go away to another place instead of telling them the reason for the divorce. I guess i would recommend this book to anybody who loves a happily ever after or anybody who loves drama.
