October is coming pretty quick and I am doing my yearly October Scare Fest again. Please feel free to join and post your October reading here, if you like to do scary/spooky/horror reading throughout the month. I am already getting my list together, although it may change slightly.

MountainAshleah (mountainshelby) Crawling through The Italian ("Hooray, The Inquisition has shown up!"), next The Beetle. Listening to The Portrait on CD_-certainly not Gothic, but continuing the dark mood. Looking forward to what others are reading.

I have read The Hungry Moon, and I really enjoyed it.

Cathy | 164 comments Hungry Moon is very good -- and I think Campbell's Ancient Images is even a tad bit better, and perfect for October!

That's how I roll. :) But seriously, I read about 16-20 books a month, so I think I can swing it. I know I won't make it through all the anthologies, but I plan to read stories out of them this month, and pick them up as I can throughout the upcoming months.

MountainAshleah (mountainshelby) 16 to 20 books a month is amazing. Where/how do you find the time? I can manage at best two a week, given that one of the two is audio, listened to on the zombie commute.

I just squeeze in books whenever I can, MountainShelby. I am so happy I started getting audiobooks from the library, because it really helps.

Lisa (lmdorney) I just ordered Dracula, which I love to read around Halloween.
btw The Literary Gothic website is a great resource for gothic short story e texts.

Lisa, I agree with you about The Literary Gothic. We've posted stories for our Tales to Chill Your Blood series from that site.

It looks like this year will be mostly modern horror. I am rereading The Poe Reader in preparation for October, and will continue it during that month. I will be participating in our Tales to Chill Your Blood story discussions, of course!
It looks like my lineup will be:

Ghost Road Blues by Jonathan Mayberry (just started)
The Isle of Blood by Rick Yancey
The Missing by Sarah Langan
Black & Orange by Benjamin Kane Ethridge

I may not be able to do more than those, but if time allows I may start one of my new anthologies, Dead but Dreaming and The Book of Cthulhu.

Looks like a great list, Martha. I am excited that a new book is out in the Monstrumologist series.

message 17: by Cathy (new)

Cathy | 164 comments My October line-up includes lots of free Kindle compilations of the classics, plus some newer stuff:

The Haunters and the Haunted
Black Spirits And White
Let the Right One In
Uncle Silas
A Book Of Ghosts

And if I, by some chance, run through all that, I'll probably buy some Laird Barron -- I've been wanting to read him for ages.
