Ken Fredette (klfredette) OK I'll bite! He came on the scene latter than most authors. But he really made his character's human by taking the most horrible things and writing about them. He made Salander do things we could only dream about. And action most books have one or two themes, but Stieg had themes running though out the book. It's too bad he died so early.

Naomi (nblackburn) | 932 comments Yeah, I agree...Could you imagine if his debuts were that popular..what he would have done as a more established author?

Ken Fredette (klfredette) He was a pretty wordy guy. But he peeked my interest so much I had to order all the books from the UK. A year before we got them in the US. There was something
on NPR about Larsson. Anyway I like their covers better than ours.

Sharon Apparently he approached writing as his retirement fund and planned either five or seven books. There has been so much in the press it becomes hard to sort through. Also read many reports about the conflict between his common law partner of some thirty years and SL's father and brother....apparently living together is not recognised in Sweden at death w/o a will. She claims to have helped with the books and knows about the next but has been stopped or delayed then a report that the father/brother are putting out number four...... Rather a turn off really after all the squabbles in the press. Also, personally I felt book one was the best and three okay with two a bit of a rambler but...no matter still better than most.

I went mad waiting for the second book in English to appear while seeing it everywhere I went on book table promotions in Dutch...same happened waiting for English of the final H.Mankell Wallander, The Troubled Man. Dutch translation was out months and months earlier........

Dee (austhokie) | 652 comments I think I liked 2 and 3 better than 1 personally, but they were all good

Ken Fredette (klfredette) I personally think he wrote the whole thing and then had to decide how not to make it into one book. Where were the logical places to stop and start.

message 8: by Naomi, the Sanity Check (new)

Naomi (nblackburn) | 932 comments I agree Ken...I think it would have been too hard to go "ok, enough for this book!" or minimally he had the storyline/draft down.

message 9: by Andy (new)

Andy Im sure everybody is aware of this news by now? But jus thought i'd post a recent story in the British press which sounds promising wrt continuation of the Salander & Blomkvist tale
