I am about 32% in. It seemed a little slow at first but I like that this is a very different world from what we're used to and I still really have no idea where the story is heading. I am enjoying that it's definitely not the same old thing.
I'm at 38% now and it suddenly became a very different book. The first third is slow and measured as they travel through the desert; I never really knew what was going on other than something was .... now I still have no idea what's going on, but it's all different. :)
I'm liking the book and I really can't say why. I do agree that the world building was done quite well. I believe in these people and their society.

Finished yesterday. I gave it 4 stars. While it was a slow moving story, I found it really compelling. I thought it was very interesting that the technology was almost like magic, at least to Marak and the other people of the planet. We never learned all that much about it, or even the bigger story because we only saw things from their perspective. While that could have been dissatisfying, somehow it wasn't. I would recommend this book.
I do feel like I read an intriguing introduction to a much greater story. I may have to read more.
I'm only about 10% in, as my new job is eating up both my free time and my energy, but it has intrigued me enough so far to buy the book. :-)
I love this book so far at 25% in. I haven't found it slow really. There's no "action", but each chapter develops the characters and plot in a substaintial way. I'm anxious to keep reading.. I keep hearing these voices "Marak. Marak..." compelling me. ;)But I'm also stuggling find time to read this w/ my new job. Only reading late at night, and I keep falling asleep, but NOT because the book is slow! (I think...)

I'm looking forward to it as this few pages I've read are intriguing and threatening to suck me right in. too bad it's only a 2-hour flight. :)
