I absolutely loved this book. It scared me to the point where I still think about hidden doors and men hiding in my closet when I stay at hotels. I've read a few of his other books but none were as completely engulfing as this one. I want more books like this.

I think the next book I want to read by him will be Origin. It sounds really good and right up my alley with the supernatural aspect. Have you read that one and is it any good?

I've already read both Afraid and Trapped by him as well as Serial Uncut, Killers and Birds of Prey but unfortunately for me nothing seems to match up to Endurance.

Or Dead City from Joe Mackinley? Those are great books, not exactly in the style of trapped, but great thriler/horror books....The series The Ancient from Mattheu Lawbe are also great books (but with a little humor in them).
Endurance was a creepy book! I LOVED it. It took me awhile to get into it. But once I did...I couldn't put it down.
eastwood (do you feel lucky punk, well do ya ) wrote: "Stirred this is not bad, halfway through good read."I haven't read any of the Jack Daniels ones because I didn't want to get into an ongoing series but I might have to take a look. I definitely enjoy this author so I might have to give it a try.
Well I think this is the last in the series, but as an individual book it is very good, looking forward to reviewing it.
Hey Lynn, I loved Afraid, trapped and Endurance and like you loved Endurance the best and can't seem to find that fix again, nothing compares..did you find anything similar?
I absolutely love this book! I love the unrestrained gore, the black humour, the characters, the STRONG women... everything, really. I thought Trapped wasn't a patch on this, and despite starting it several times I have never got more than 1/4 way through Afraid. I will persevere.

all of the above or some elements, extreme horror would be top though, any ideas?

Afraid not, the only books that match this one are other Kilborn novels! I take it you've read his others?
For extreme horror Wrath James White and Edward Lee are probably your best options. Both really good.
I'm trying my luck with Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist. I hear it's pretty gruesome. Fingers Crossed!

I agree with you, it's like an addiction, I keep looking for that same thrill and I can't find anything that compares. It's very disheartening.

For realy extreme stuff I'd recommend by Edward Lee, The House, Going Monstering,Big Head, Minotauress and Family Tradition. For Wrath James White I'd probably start with Orgy of Souls.
I've found that although he isn't as extreme that Richard Laymon's style and story lines are very similar to Afraid, Trapped and Endurance also.

Jack Ketchum is another brilliant horror author. The Girl Next Door or his new one I am not Sam are excellent. Both are disturbing.

what about Jeff Strand?his books are similar to Jack Kilborn...also Draculas is brilliant...a collaboration between them both and two other authors
If you've not tried John Paul Allen, he writes a similar type of horror. It's really intense stuff, not for the fainthearted. A couple of his shorts are available on Amazon.com for free. That's a good way to try him.
