Ok, so I've been thinking about buying a Kindle, but I don't know if I'll like it. So I'm throwing it out there to the group.

Do you own a Kindle or E-Reader? Would you recommend it?

I love to look a my books on the shelf and on tables (and in some cases under the bed), so I don't know if this product would be for me? But instantly getting the titles I want is a huge plus. What do you think?

I am in love with my Sony e-reader, it makes things so much easier, you have more room in the house and you can take up to 160 books with you anywhere you go, You can also get extra Cartridges so you can add more books to them and take them with you also.

I also like to look at my books, so I still keep my series even if I also buy it on E-book, sometimes you just can't get enough of one book.

Thanks Meme! Once you buy a book can you share with another e-reader or Kindle user? Do you find that the e-books are significantly cheaper?

I'm not sure if you can share with other Sony books, you have do down load them on your computer then you put them on your reader. If you have a friend with the same reader as you, you could probable get a cartridge and put you books on them that way you could share. I don't know if you can share with people who don't have the same system.
They are not significantly cheaper but they are a little, it depends on the book, maybe $.80 and up. Most books are between $4 to $8, I also got 100 free classic book when I purchased mine.
The New popular books are between $4 and $15 I think (could be wrong on that one.)

Oh, that's good to know (esp. about the book prices). The 100 free classics is a good deal though.

I've been keeping up with e-reader news for about a year, and I desperately want a Kindle.

I just wanted to point out that if you're interested in classics, you can get a lot of the books old enough to be out of copyright for free from sites like gutenberg.org. A lot of e-book sites sell them as well, but if you're interested in older books be sure to check for free copies first!

I have professors that give me electronic papers to read and I usually print them out anyways just because I can't stand reading on a screen. Besides, I just love being able to hold a new book with its new book smell-and electronic stuff just doesn't do it justice for me. :) But I do like the fact that it saves trees. That's the only plus!

I am getting ready to start school (online) in march and I am loving the fact that I can download my school books onto my reader so I don't have to sit in front of the computer for hours at a time. The comp hurts my eyes but the Ereads doesn't, that's a big plus to me.

It really doesn't hurt your eyes? Hm. I've been dying to get one and this may push me over the edge to start really considering when and where to get one.

NO it doesn't its like reading a book and you can also magnify the words Just in case you are half blind like I am its really nice

THat is really nice! Especially for when I go more blind. i have to read with the glasses I wear everyday right now and it would be nice to try not too, but I can only read without them if the book is like 4 inches from my face.

they have a large setting and its like looking at a large print book its really good.

I'm dying for a Sony Reader, I'm saving all I can so I can buy it!

they are amazing that is what I have and as you can see I fell in love with it.

Do you know that you can get it by making payments thru Sony and they where doing a no interest no payments for 12 months deal don't know if they still are or not

Yes that is how I got mine, its a whole lot easier making payments then it is to come out with all the money at once

I'll look into that payment plan when I have my finances more under control. My fiance and I just moved out in November and the next few months are going to be rough money wise.

I can understand that Kristen but yes when you do get all worked out you should look into it.

There is a way to kinda email them I just don't remember how to do it but I will find out, as long as its Sony and registered I should be able to send them to you

Sony is releasing two new models of it's Digital Reader. At $199, poor me can afford it! As a few of you know, I have a hard time getting the books I want at the bookstore and I don't have any libraries close by. So getting a Reader is a smart move for me. All I have to do is get online and choose the book I want and Presto! I have the book immediately. Sony is also going to be supporting the epub format, which means that I can buy from any online bookstore that sells epub, I'm not locked into buying books from Sony, I can shop around.

That's great Gisela! I agree that it sounds like a good move. Buying books online becomes addictive (not much different than buying them in the store, lol). The new model looks really nice, too!

I also like the fact I don't have to buy from Sony. I can find a lot of great deals elsewhere.

I can't wait to get the software update for Macs, it's about time!

Has anyone heard about the reader that barnes and noble is coming out with? I've been considering more getting an e-reader because I want to decrease the paper books I read. Though I'm a little concerned with how fast electronics come out with new models that I would be wasting my money..?

I recently bought a Sony Pocket Ereader as I only hundreds of books and don't have room for them. I love it to be honest. There are different font sizes. It's really comfy to hold (I have small hands so I get pains in them holding a book open for hours at a time). http://ebookprice.info/
is the best site I've come across for purchasing ebooks-lists nearly all the ebook sites and you can choose lowest price (I live in Ireland so cannot access Sony bookstore). Sony bookstore is changing it's book format to ePub which is not proprietry. You can usually download a book several times from a site and I use Adobe Digital Editions which can be registered to 6 computers where you can transfer the files via memory key etc...
I wouldn't go with a Kindle as I heard that books purchased for Kindle 1 are not supported on Kindle 2 etc. Sony are releasing a wireless device soon I think. Where there is competition for ebooks the prices will be cheaper.

From research, the Nook (Barnes & Noble) seems like a better buy than the Kindle.. but I agree that the Sony has more flexibility as to where you purchase your books.. I think that's what I am going to get for myself after the holidays.

Hey, i have the sony e-reader and i LOVE it!! i honestly dont know what i would do without it anymore. Its like my cell phone.... if i forget it i feel naked haha. I have the one that has the light built in and it make reading at night sooo easy and it you fall asleep with it on it turns itself off if you dont turn a page for 60 min. I got the sony over the kindle because i like how the sony doesnt have that many buttons on the front... makes it more book like i guess. ohh and if you are reading a series and finish it at 11pm and really want to start the next book you dont have to wait!!! hope that helps!

Ok, I finally got a Sony eReader (pocket, navy blue) and I love it!!! Space-saving is one of my biggest issues--we have a 2 bedroom apartment--and also I just like having 350 books in the palm of my hand (well, I'm somewhere around 60 or so, but you know I'll get there eventually).

I got the Study Series bundle for a little over $20. ^_^ of course! Even though I have multiple copies of each book :) including the audiobooks, hee hee. I will probably splurge for Twilight bundle too, someday soon.

I got the hard case because I tend to be careless with things and I don't want to be kicking myself when I drop or scratch it (potentially to be averted by having the case, phew.)

The thing I have been most impressed with aside from graphics (I read Black Hole the graphic novel on my Sony Reader) is how many books you can get for free. I downloaded ePubs for a bunch of the classic must-haves (Austen, Bronte, Carroll--you know) and the book I was going to buy the same day we bought the Reader--Monstrumologist--was available free from the eBookstore!

Also, and I haven't had the chance to try this out yet, but I will soon, Los Angeles Public Library has a great digital library service--yeah! you check out the book and when you're done you click "return borrowed material" and it returns it to their library electronically so someone else can check it out.

I have owned both Kindle 1 and Kindle 2, so I'm already committed to the basic idea: e-ink reading in a slim form factor with excellent connectivity to a large selection of books and subscriptions. I have come to rely on my Kindle experience, and it has seriously enhanced my reading.
