What are your tips and tricks to writing an outstanding synopsis?
What kinds of things have worked for you in the past, or what kinds of things haven't worked for you in the past?
Do you guys write it first or are you unable to structure yourself like that as a writer?

I'd really really like to hear some discussion on this.

The first time I wrote a synopsis was about 10,000 words into the novel, the second time at about 3000 after I had written the end chapter, that however may have been a mistake because the way the story has evolved I now have to rewrite both the end and the synopsis.

I'm sure you don't have to rewrite the whole synopsis do you, the beginning should still be the same isn't it? Or no?

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 8 comments Not sure I may be able to salvage some of it, I didn't anticipate my imagination going into overdrive and moving the goalposts! I hope it makes it less predictable, it certainly spiced up the mid section but left me with a dilemma as to the end.

I painted myself into a corner and instead of chucking my teddy out the pram and having a paddy I read through all that I had written before and worked out how to pull it back round!

That's so great Sarah! Sara Gruen said that she loves to write her characters into a corner and challenges herself to find a way to write them out of it. :)
