Have you acquired any new books lately?

I recently ordered The Night Circus, The Snowman, and The Winters in Bloom. Every now and then I stop by the Goodwill to check out the books. I left with Crunch Time. I was thrilled to have found it....at Goodwill of all places.

Reading Night Circus right now. Only recent purchase. I preordered Jeffrey Eugenides Marriage Plot in October. Night Circus is good so far...

Most recent purchases were Juliet, Naked by Nick Hornby and Back of Beyond by C.J. Box.

These days I don't buy, I borrow. I did just finish a great new book though. The Leftovers had an original premise that also served as a subtle social comentary. What would society be like if almost everyone lost someone in an inexplicable way?

That sounds interesting Heather!! Oh my gosh, and I have that on my TBR list already. Loved Little Children by same author and am anxious to read more by him.

I have been on a book buying spree and got quite a few lately!

So many books and so little time to read!

I use the library rather than the bookstore, but this week I was given a copy of Second Nature: A Novel by the author herself!

I won a book through Goodreads - The Prospect of My Arrival by Dwight Okita. I started it yesterday, and am happy to report - it's very good so far.

I love finding little gems like that. It sounds interesting.

I've bought a few cookbooks because I'm cooking and baking more, mostly seasonal and vegetable cookbooks. I'm a fiend for farmers' market cookbooks. I'm trying to use the library more and currently am reading two books from there, but I have added some books to my Kindle:

I was at Starbucks today and The Night Circus was the recommended book. Usually it's music.

I buy most of my books at Goodwill, and one recent purchase was Un Lun Dun by China Mieville. This is a book my husband and I both have on our TBR lists, so I was happy to have found it. I also bought these from Goodwill a few weeks ago: Stolen Innocence: My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs, Left Neglected, and Your Inner Fish: A Journey into the 3.5-Billion-Year History of the Human Body. Then at Borders a few weeks ago I bought a bunch of books. This is a sampling: Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void, The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - and Why, Dracula in Love, Lost on Planet China: The Strange and True Story of One Man's Attempt to Understand the World's Most Mystifying Nation, or How He Became Comfortable Eating Live Squid, and Vampire Academy.

I am a borrower from the library, but I did pick up The Lonely Polygamistand This Beautiful Life the other day.

I heard a radio interview with the author of Packing for Mars and thought it sounded fascinating.

Periodically I call a halt to all buying, and that was the case during August and September. Just five more days to go! I feel like going hog-wild once I'm sprung from my self-imposed prison, but that would only defeat the purpose of cutting back. I buy waaay more books than I can read (big surprise)! There's no doubt, though, that I'll be grabbing up FALLING TOGETHER by Marisa de los Santos as soon as it's released next week on Oct. 4!

Can't you buy books? how can I win free books I have to pay 50 pence for mine! about 40 cents
I went into a proper book shop today and saw about 10 books would love to read straight away.
I need to keep away from them and just go to charity shops and intra net.

I read one of her others, Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers and loved it. I know the subject matter sounds morbid and gross, but this book is fascinating! I tried her other one, Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, but I didn't like that so returned it to the library not long after getting it. I am not sure I will pick up Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife. It sounds interesting, but I don't think the reviews have been as good. Packing for Mars, however, has gotten stellar reviews. I hope I love it as much as I loved Stiff.

Had a great time in London yesterday and bought 5 books from The Forbidden Planet and I must say Waterstones in Picadilly is fantastic and very civil with its coffee shop and bar!
