Cambions - the sexy new paranormal creature?

Angela S (adktd2bks) | 4 comments Okay, so I had to look it up. According to my "quick" search, it's basically a child from a human and a demon (a succubus or an incubus) that's beautiful and seductive. Not to diss on the author or anything, but how is this so different from other half-demons that we see in literature? Come to think of it though, the only book I've personally read that has one is Hush, Hush. Though I imagine they must be fairly common across the paranormal genre as a whole.

I think cambions retain their humanity were as other half-demons don't?

Getting back to the book, I read the first few pages and it was really quite engaging.

Angela S (adktd2bks) | 4 comments Also I was really surprised in the review when you said that the beginning read kind of old to you, what with her wanting to lose her V with one of the band members. When I read it, I was thinking it sounded very young, like something that a 15-16 yr old would do. Funny how people differ in their opinions.

You have a point. The demon hybrid has been done before. Common knowledge: demons are the fallen angels who disobeyed God. Angels are beautiful and demons are evil. Therefore by logic, demons such as incubi and succubi are dangerously beautiful. In fact most vampire lore can trail back to the incubus as a source of its existence and inhernet sex appeal.

The key difference is message. Vampirism is giant metaphor for sex. This incubi myth makes sex the metaphor for human indulgence. It’s pretty in-your-face about it. There’s no blood sucking, but the taking of life force, physical energy of a human body through intimate contact. Cambions or hybrid stories in genral illustrate the human struggle, vice, and how evil can easily take over. Or at least that’s how I wrote it in my story.

Thanks, Jaime! If anyone would know, it would be you. (Jaime's book Living Violet is part of her Cambion trilogy).

I liked your post, Jaime. I think the beauty of the whole half demon/half human thing is that constant battle between dark and light. Makes for conflicted characters and is essentially a reflection of human nature. The demon side always fights for release while the human side tries to suppress it. I love it how it also gives an author a chance to bite into the whole nature vs nurture debate. Is someone evil because they are inherently so (i.e part demon) or can a loving background and family counteract that?

I agree with the balance of nature vs. nurture. Are you evil just because you were born in that environment or can you choose to make your life what you want it to be.

Will good accept you? How will being partially human add to the mix?
