108A TE Fall 2011 discussion

I literally hid this book under my mattress to keep from reading past page 100. There are so many mysteries! Why did Marcus punch Sal? Why did Sal stop talking to Miranda? Is Julia actually nicer than she seems and what happened with her and Annemarie? WHO IS SENDING THE CREEPY NOTES?

My out there theory is that somehow Marcus, the genius, is traveling through time, or out of time. That's why sometimes he remembers Miranda, but sometimes he doesn't. He also didn't seem to recognize Sal the 2nd time. He did talk about a Wrinkle in Time and how the end of the story is sometimes before the middle. I wonder if Marcus is the letter writer...This reminds me a bit of The Time Traveler's Wife as well. In that novel the main character has a temporal disorder and moves along the timeline of his life at random.

After reading your post, I am now questioning the content in mine since your idea of Marcus being the note taker makes sense since the whole "I will not be myself" and "long journey preparations" do hint that the note taker could be time traveling. Great observations Arwen.

Wow! Marcus could have invented a time machine since he seems quite intelligent (he had read 'Winkle in Time' when he was in second grade,and seemed to have really understood it). Can we start reading again???
