OK, well, I just read it, it took me about 5 minutes, so I think even I can manage that once a week.I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, it seemed a bit odd, but I did love the ending part.
I have read loads of his novels - after I watched the Commitments I read all the ones that were out at the time, but this wasn't really like any of those as I remember them (although thinking about it, that was probably about 20 years ago).
I thought it was a really clever idea, and it was very well written. It kind of draws you in really quickly and the character is very believable. At the end though, I did think "no way, and then what happened" so I guess the foreword of the book is correct!
I read it this morning and absolutely loved it. It does leave you with a lot of unanswered questions, but that's fine - it gives you more to ponder on. It had just the right amount of humour to keep you entertained, but not so much that it lost the weird, icky and slightly creepy element.
Roddy Doyle is one of those authors I've been curious about but haven't got round to reading yet, so this short story was a good chance to give him a test drive.I might try Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha now, as it looks like an interesting read.
If all our weekly stories are as good as this I'll be very happy.

I really liked the pace of the story. I also liked the way he used the phrase his wife says over and over.
Even though he kept coming up with reasons why he was craving you just know it's not going to be resolved that easily and without some drama.
I did give Roddy Doyle a bash many years ago and I read quite a chunk of Paddy Clark Ha Ha Ha twice but I never finished it. I think bigger things just kept getting in the way.

I read this but I didn't really like it. It just shows you how people differ because the way he kept repeating the phrase really grated on me.
I thought it was a good way to highlight the grasping at straws, unhinged mind of the protagonist.
I loved it! I've never read any of his stuff before but I loved the idea of this and the fact that he lived near where Bram Stoker lived. I really wanted to know what happened next too but I guess that's the point!

What did you think of it?
What did you think of the ending?
Have you read anything by him before?
