Suddenly Tobias cries out and demands Loriana stop the car. They run back to look at the Town Hall clock. It's stopped at exactly 12:03AM. It is then that they notice a side door to the Town Hall is slightly ajar...

The Storyteller is a festive short story which owes a large debt to A Christmas Carol. It is about how we can't always see that what we want may not be what is right for us and that what we truly need might be right in front of us.

I became interested in this book after it was recommended to me by another author, and as a result of the string of top star reviews the book has received.Being of the belief that reader reviews are generally very reliable when in good number,I got a copy on kindle. I do not usually read thriller or suspense titles, though I'm always looking for those with an original twist or which are unusually well written, and this promised - and delivered - on both fronts. From the very start of this book, I was, as many other reviews have stated, gripped by the off-the-wall (but also familiar) characters, the twisting narrative and the fine pace and tone of the writing. The story builds with a deliberate and unrelenting pace, not rushed but judged to let events unfold with real tension. I don't like giving plot summaries, so I won't, but I very much recommend this title as a great read, fresh in the genre, tense and with a nicely sinister eye for when the seemingly ordinary and mundane can yield real threat value. I'm looking forward to Logan's next one.

Joe Henry and his wife Susan began their rollercoaster ride through life despite the objections of both sets of parents. Add their mismatched social and religious differences into the mix and you have A Recipe for Disaster. Their life is a journey filled with joy and laughter, with a side order of misfortune and tears. Joe has a definitive talent for getting himself into difficult situations, whether at home or at work. Susan is a long-suffering wife and mother who can put up with many things but even she has her limits.

Joe’s antics as he avoids responsibility and glibly tries to talk his way out of trouble are laughable; or at least he thinks so. Cry with Susan as she deals with the messes made by her husband and attempts to keep the family on track. Set mostly in the Ireland of the 1960s and onwards, the Henrys are a unique and entertaining family that will provide you with hours of hearty laughter.

I fully recommend this book. I really warmed to Joe the protagonist he is a person I have met many times and I've usually enjoyed his company. He has real down to earth qualities. Sometimes he's his own worst enemy, when he goes out of his way to complicate his life. John Henry portrays Life in Ireland in the 60s, married life, office camaraderie and life in general very realistically. I laughed out loud lots of times, but there is some poignancy in this tale too. Be prepared to enjoy.
