Kate | 7 comments Tales By Kindlelight

New to Kindle is my short story collection, some of them previously published in anthologies or shortlisted in competitions. It's an edgy, bittersweet collection reflects themes for our time, be it the angst of reaching fifty and a life not quite fully realized, emerging sexuality or sexual experimentation. In other stories, patterns of behaviour across generations or within a lifetime are explored. Other stories look at life from unusual viewpoints, while others still have voices of a generation. Whatever your inclination, Tales by Kindlelight has something for you.

Extinction Theory, Super Nova and Mechanical Jihad all available in a single download!

Extinction Theory
Sydney Trent, a mass extinction theorist unfortunately finds one of his darkest theories becoming reality as humanity faces it own possible extinction. A spin on the popular zombie genre this book goes against the grain by exploring what else could create and drive a zombie as well as a nightmare zombie outbreak!

Super Nova
Set over 100 years in the future, Commander Jack Emerick finds him self in a difficult situation. His team have been tasked with securing a disabled military facility in a far flung uninhabited area of space. However when they get there they find something far more sinister than a mutinous crew or terrorist activity that threatens the future survival of all mankind.

Mechanical Jihad
This is the second part of the Super Nova series.
Jack and Cantrell return to find themselves in troubling times. Yet again the Mechanicals are plotting against humanity only this time their plans come to fruition. This latest tale in the Super Nova series finds humanity on the brink of extinction as they fight for their very right to survive. The Devil Made Me Do It is my bestselling erotic short story collection. 5-star reviews! http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...

Don’t tempt me…. Erin wants her husband to rip her clothes off…literally. Does she dare provoke him? Natalie wants to make love outdoors. Can she convince her shy husband? Melissa wants the bad boy she just met in a bar. Should she or shouldn’t she? And Heather watches from a secret room….

These women and others like them know what they want in bed. But some-times they have to be a little extra bold to get it. Watch them bring their naughtiest fantasies to life in some very interesting ways.

It wasn’t my idea…the devil made me do it.

Joel (joelarnold) | 7 comments Fetal Bait Apocalypse; 3 Collections in 1 by Joel Arnold

'Fetal Bait Apocalypse; 3 Collections in 1' contains all three of Joel Arnold's short story collections in one volume:

Bait and Other Stories
Bedtime Stories for the Apocalypse
Fetal Position and Other Stories

This one volume holds over 120,000 words of fiction that will haunt and terrify you for days on end.

Contains the award winning stories "Some Things Don't Wash Off" and "Mississippi Pearl" as well as stories that have seen print in such venues as Weird Tales, Gothic.Net, ChiZine, HorrorFind and Pseudopod. Six of these stories have received honorable mentions in The Years Best Fantasy & Horror.

In these three collections, you'll meet:

A father whose intense longing for his dead son lead to disturbing consequences.
A group of college students tubing down a river through a burnt forest who encounter terrifying creatures.
A man seeking redemption for a sinful past through the skill of a tattoo artist.
A Cambodian-American teen who will fit in with the locals at any cost.
A woman who finds a bizarre solace in a rare pearl.
A self-absorbed husband monitoring the end of his existence over the internet.
A teenager digging his way through a deep crust of waste and bone to win his freedom.
A man whose work for the Khmer Rouge returns to haunt him.
A son who has an intensely strange relationship with his mother.
A student with a bizarre homework assignment.
A woman who has a macabre way to deal with bill collectors.

These stories and more will have you up late into the night, glancing over your shoulder and flinching at the slightest of noises.

"Joel Arnold is the real deal. He elicits a subtle element of terror and justice through his writing, delivered without a heavy hand. His exceptional imagery effects readers in a way that leaves them chilled and disturbed; causing the kind of behavior that will leave friends asking "what's bothering you," for days afterwards." D.L. Russell, editor of Strange, Weird & Wonderful Magazine

”Author Arnold has a deft touch with horror that will leave a chill in your spine, but without the violence and gore of much modern horror. The stories remind me of Ray Bradbury at his darkest with their ability to play on the difference between what we know might happen and what we want to happen. These are complex tales with layers below the surface enjoyment of a story well written.” Armchair Interviews

Joyce DeBacco (joydeb) | 6 comments Midnight and Holding by Joyce DeBacco

Midnight and Holding (short story collection) by Joyce DeBacco

Stories of interest to women with no blood, gore, or otherworldly specters.

Sometimes we wish we could stop the clock and rewind time. Maybe to savor a happy moment, take back words spoken in haste, or fulfill an ambition. Other times we want to turn the clock ahead, hopeful of better times or fortunes. Midnight and Holding is a collection of stories reflecting those desires. Total words: approximately 12,000.

Rubies and Other Gems – A woman’s trip back in time puts her present problems in perspective. (Not to be confused with my novel of the same name.)

The Shed – A newly erected garden shed is the catalyst that reconnects a driven executive with his neglected wife and children.

Harvey’s New Suit – A woman buys her husband his first new suit in years.

Rainbow Years – A carefree youth calls to mind a woman’s own dreams and desires.

Mad Dogs and Fishermen – A humorous account of an innocent suggestion taken to extreme.

Midnight and Holding – A parent’s rite of passage.

message 19: by Brendan (new)

Brendan Gisby (twistedfoot) | 3 comments Ferry Tales

South Queensferry – the Ferry, it is called by those who live there – sits on the southern shore of the River Forth in Scotland. The main part of the town nestles between the approaches to the road bridge across the river and that crossing’s much older and more famous neighbour, the Forth Rail Bridge.

Nowadays, the town is regarded as another suburb of Edinburgh, having been gradually absorbed by the city. But back in the 1950’s and the early 1960’s, the period when the stories in this collection are set, the Ferry was a separate entity belonging to the county of West Lothian, rather than a part of Edinburgh.

The town was much smaller then, almost village-like. It was a time when the ferryboats still ran and the distillery was still working and the dockyard was in full swing. But it was also a time of austerity, when people were still recovering from the War years and many families were still poor. Saddest of all, as was the case elsewhere in West Lothian, it was a time of sectarianism, when freemasonry was powerful and anti-Catholicism was rife.

The stories in this collection revolve around Brendan Gisby's family when he was growing up in the Ferry during that time.

Damien Kelly (damienkelly) | 13 comments The Christmas Gifts

The season of giving is a season of darkness; a season of extended nights and twilight days.

And the gifts of the season aren’t always the kind you’d hope to receive.

The Christmas Gifts is a collection of twelve tales of the uncanny in a handy stocking-sized anthology, wherein an unusual Christmas ‘gift’ at the heart of each story - be it rare, unexpected, inappropriate or even unwanted - comes wrapped in a piece of that seasonal darkness.

When loving your friend means denying your hunger.

When the lustre of gold doesn’t stop it from being a chain.

When giving is another word for sacrifice.

This is the Christmas Macabre.

Little children walk with monsters—Saints with Devils. Everyone wears red.

Give the gift of the macabre this holiday.

Suggested for mature readers.

My festive short story, The Storyteller is available here http://www.amazon.com/Storyteller-Gho....

It's Christmas Eve. Midnight. Tobias and Loriana are in a deserted car park, talking about leaving their partners and running away together. It's freezing, apparently cold enough to freeze the dashboard clock to 12:03AM. Loriana's phone rings, that too is stuck at 12:03AM. Confused and a little scared, they drive away. Suddenly Tobias cries out and demands Loriana stop the car. They run back to look at the Town Hall clock. It's stopped at exactly 12:03AM. It is then that they notice a side door to the Town Hall is slightly ajar...
